Chapter 13

~Narrator's P.O.V~

The blue hedgehog was running, chasing the evil jackal he had already fought many times. He growled to himself, he won't let him get away this time, not if it means the world could end. Sonic wouldn't let that happen, he can't.

Infinite floated overhead, a red glow illuminated and throbbed around him as he stared down at the blue hedgehog. His eye showed amusement as Sonic stood below him, and he pointed a clawed hand towards him.

"Pathetic little hedgehog. Even with the Phantom Ruby weakened, I still have enough power to smash you into blue jelly. I'll show you how outclassed you really are!"

Sonic growled, "I'm in a class all my own. Time to put-up or shut up, Infinite!"

He jumped, spin-dashing into the jackal but Infinite caught him, throwing him into the ground. Sonic tried again, only to be deflected once more. With a frustrated grunt, the hedgehog decided to change his tactic, running around Infinite in hopes to confuse him.

The jackal chuckled and watched him run, before raising a hand and shooting a beam at Sonic's feet, causing him to trip and skid across his face. Infinite laughed, before holding his hands close. A red ball appeared, growing larger and larger by the second.

"You're done for, Sonic. The Phantom Ruby's energy is recharged... Perish, along with your useless friends!"

He raised the ball of energy above his head and Sonic looked up helplessly. Suddenly, a grappling hook flew at Infinite's face, and the jackal dodged, the ball of destruction disappearing. (Y/N) swung down, landing in front of Sonic with a growl, her fur/feathers raised in warning.

"You..." Infinite growled, glaring down at her.

(Y/N) huffed, before turning to Sonic and pulling him to his feet. Sonic smiled at her, giving her the thumbs up, before stepping in front of the (a/t) protectively.

"My friends got me this far, and together we're gonna win!" He smiled, before grabbing onto (Y/N)'s arm.

The (a/t) already knew what to do, and swung the hedgehog around, throwing him at Infinite. The surprised jackal tried to stop him, but the shear force knocked the wind from his lungs, sending him crashing into the ground.

Sonic landed in front of him, a smirk on his lips, "What's the matter Infinite? Don't have any friends? Then I guess it's time to show you the true power of teamwork!"

(Y/N) ran over, and Sonic took her hand, and she threw him again. Infinite deflected the best he could, but was thrown back once again. His body began to glitch, and he tried to stand.

"I-Impossible... I cannot be.. Defeated..." He groaned, holding his masked face.

"Wrong, loser!" Sonic shook his finger, "The things that can't be defeated are heart, soul, and the bonds of friendship. Three things you and your counterfeit cronies lack!"

(Y/N) nodded in agreement, smiling at the hedgehog before turning back to the defeated jackal. He glitched more, standing slowly and glaring at them, but he started to fade, and he looked down in alarm.

"N-No, wait! I c-can still fight!"

He faded away, disappearing from the hedgehog and (a/t)'s eyes. Sonic and (Y/N) shared a glance, confused as to what they just witnessed. The sound of a flying space-craft made them turn, and Dr. Eggman appeared before them in his Egg Mobile.

"You never fail to surprise me, Sonic." He growled, clearly mad, "I didn't believe Infinite could lose. Victory will be so much sweeter when I defeat you. Don't think this is over yet, you blue nuisance. My plan just went into overtime!"

He flew off without another word, and Sonic and (Y/N) shared another confused and worried glance.

"What is he up to..." Sonic growled, before his ear twitched.

"Guys!" Knuckles' voice came through, and the two flinched slightly, "The clones are disappearing! We've won!"

Loud cheers and applause came from the earpiece, but the hedgehog and (a/t) frowned. They knew it wasn't over, and something told them things were about to get a lot worse.

"We better go." Sonic said as he started walking, "We'll need to be with the others when Eggman pulls whatever he has planned out of his sleeve."

(Y/N) nodded, following him slowly. She stared at the ground as they walked. Why were they walking? Shouldn't they be running to the others?

"And hey, thanks for saving me." Sonic smiled at her, "If you weren't there, I really would be blue jelly.."

She looked at him, before smiling and giving him the thumbs up.

"And.. Hey..." He stopped, rubbing his quills, "I know this isn't the best time, since we're in the middle of a war but... I'm really glad you joined our team.. You've really helped us a lot."

Her smile widened, and she nodded.

"Heh.. Just think, if you weren't here, the world would be in chaos. Literally." He chuckled lightly, before sighing, "Um.. Since I nearly died before, I figured I should say this while I still can.. Cause who knows what will happen next..."

(Y/N) stared at him, tilting her head in confusing, and the hedgehog's cheeks turned a light pink. He rubbed his ear, keeping his gaze away from hers in fear that he'd turn into a tomato.

"But... I personally am glad you are here... Really.. You've helped me more than I can give credit for and.. Man I'm bad at this.."

The (a/t) smiled softly, before pulling the confuzzled hedgehog into a tight hug. Sonic blinked, before smiling and hugging back just as tightly.

"I get what you're saying..." (Y/N) mumbled, her tail wagging slowly, "And yeah... I'm glad too..."

A/N: I'M SORRY IT'S SO SHORT ;A; IDK I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO WRITE MUCH ATM, LIKE MY MOTIVATION TO WRITE IT THERE BUT I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO WRITE? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? IDK BUT I'M SO SORRY AND I'LL TRY TO MAKE IT BETTER BUT TBH THERE ISN'T MUCH TO THE CHAPTERS GUYS, THEY ARE REALLY STRAIGHT FORWARD...
