The hospital waiting room smells so clean. Waiting to see Drew was killing me. I wait untill my name is called by a short nurse with her hair slicked back in a bun.
"Drew is awake." She said very quietly.
I stand up after waiting for 2 hours and I follow the lady into Drew's room. I slide open the curtan to see Drew's beautiful face with one big bruise to the left of her left eye, a cut through her eyebrow, her top lip bubbled up, and stitches down the side of her face. I couldn't keep the tears back and it was waterworks when I saw what my dream had caused. Drew was smiling at me with her one big eye only half way closed and I wondered how she could be smiling after what happened?
"Why are you crying?" Asked Drew with the biggest smile on he face.
"Drew don't you see?! I caused this!!" I made sure this was a whisper so no one else could here.
"What do you mean?"
"I had a dream someone that I loved was going to get hurt." I said.
"You mean, your dreams are happening still?!"
"Yes, and I've got a lot to tell you about. Let's just say me and Mrs. Daylock are a lot alike." I whisper.
Just as I finished my last word, the person I least expected to walk through the door, did. Lance. I look at Drew and she has a secret grin going on.
"Oh my gosh, lance I'm a mess!!.. It's been a very long day today."
He threw his hand up, a motion for me to stop talking.
"You look great Paisley."
His dreamy eyes stared into mine and my heart was pumping so hard In my chest with a burning sensation. I wanted to grab his messy hair and kiss him. Just kiss him. Make the pain all fly away. But I just met him.
"I just wanted to make sure you and Drew were alright." Lance smiles.
Lance pulls a get better balloon from his back and hands it to Drew.
"Oh my gosh," Said Drew, you didn't have to do that, but thank you.. that was really nice of you."
The same nurse came in and told me and Lance that the doctor was going to check on Drew's leg and that we should come back another time.
"Wait, what happened to your leg?" I ask.
Drew pulls up her cover and shows me her leg. A big bloody scab covers the whole front of her leg. It's still bleeding and had several places with stitches. My hand slaps my mouth as I cover my horrific scream. This time Drew does start to cry. It's noiseless but painfull.
"Drew.... I can't tell you how sorry I am..."
A tear slides down my cheek and drops to the floor.
"The doctor doesn't know if I'll ever walk the same." Cried Drew.
I hugged Drew like I would never see her again. I hugged her hard. This girl was a fighter, my best friend. And because of me, she was going through what no other person should have to go through. She didn't deserve any if this. Before I could say another word, the doctor was pushing me out of the room. The door closed in my face and I stood there for a moment just staring at the door. Behind that door, I should be. I should lose my ability to walk. My legs got tired of standing there and I had to go sit down. I turned around to see lance through my blurry vision. My tears made it hard to see him, but they didn't seen to go away. Lance came and sat down beside me.
"I was really worried about you today in class Paisley."
"I'm sorry, I couldn't handle it, my life has been changing a lot recently."
"It's alright. Listen, so I know this week has been hectic, but I wanted to as you something."
"Would you like to go to the spring dance with me?" Asked lance with an adorable grin. "I really like you Paisley."
I didn't know what to think. I really like him too I thought. But I was scared. I loved Drew as my best friend and look what I did to her. What would I do to Lance?! I guess if I just went to the dance there wouldn't be a problem right?! But what if there was... I didn't want to rusk it.
" lance, I'm sorry, no."
Those were the meanest words I had ever said and once they came out of my mouth, lances smile faded. He began to walk out the door and my brain started a war with my heart. Was I beginning to love him? I don't know what came out of me, but I got up, ran to lance, melted into his arm, and said I would love to. My head was at his chest and it didn't take him one second to hug me back. His chin rested atop my head and his heart was beating loudly in my ear.
"Awesome."
We let each other go and he proceeded walking me to his car.
"It's not for a few weeks so I'll call you when we want to work out the car arrangements."
Lance's smile is beautiful. I love his hazel eyes that are always looking right at me.
"Okay, I'll see you soon." I smile.
I snapped back into reality and realized what I had just done. I allowed myself to like Lance. Tonight, my dreams could change his future, he could get hurt even worse! There was no more time to see Drew, so I left for home.
As I walked through the door I realized I had some questions for my mom.
"Mom?!" I questioned.
"I'm in my room honey!"
I walked up to her and told her we needed to talk.
"Mom. Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you what?"
"That you gave me this horrible gift that allows my dreams to hurt people?!"
My mom started crying. She slid to the ground and sat looking at me.
"I hoped you wouldn't get it. It has ruined my life in many ways you don't want to know about about." She whimpers. "How did you find out about it?!"
"My science teacher, Mrs. Daylock. I told her that I had a dream she told us she was pregnant and she was. And then, I had a horrible dream that got Drew in a wreck. The doctor's don't know if she'll ever walk the same."
A tear slid down my cheek and my mom patted me on the back.
"I'm so sorry paisley."
"Mom, it's not your fault!" I scream.
"I know, I just didn't want you to have to go through what I went through."
