Keith's POV
"Let's go."
We make a quick sprint across the road to a doorway opposite."The shopping centre's just up ahead."
We're panting heavily, breaths coming out in gasps.By shopping centre, we mean a relatively large department store.
And we're panting because there's currently a group of ravenous corpses attempting eat us.
Fortunately we have, probably temporarily, escaped then. We've been separated from the others for just over two weeks.
"We need to get away from the group behind us."
"I've got a crowbar, I can open a door and we can go through the gardens"
"Can we go a few gardens then hole up in a house for the night?"
I shoot them a curious glance.
"Matt's not looking too good and we can't see them as well in the dark."
"Sure."I lever open the door and we move into the house, making sure we can't hear any groans or sounds of movement.
Leaning the door against its now separated hinges, I point to where I assume the entrance to the garden is.
Pidge and Matt nod.We close the broken front door as best we can and start to move as quietly as we can toward the kitchen.
It's quite dark, so I pull out a head torch I looted from another house. Matt and Pidge do the same. It's pretty fucked up in here; the banister's fractured pieces litter the area, broken glass creating a thin, almost glazed layer over the trodden carpet.
We start to move through, making as little noise as possible.
The screen door to the garden is semi open, lodged slightly of it's hinges.
Carefully I try to shift it back so we can get out easier.
A loud, shrill squeak permeates the eerie silence.
Instantly I can hear some shuffling and various grunts and groans.
"Shit."
I point to the fence directly to the left of the door.
"Let's try and get over that one; It didn't sound like there were many of them there."The flurry of movement is starting to fade now, but now we know they're around us I can feel the panic beginning to rise.
I have another go at shifting the door.
A louder, shriller sound cuts through the air.
The sounds around us are louder and more frantic, a pounding on the fence starts and doesn't fade.
A noise from somewhere behind us informs us that the group we thought we'd escaped may have found us again.
There are almost inquisitive groans at the door we'd propped back on its frame.
"Upstairs."
A crash from the back garden and the mood is suddenly panicked as we race up the glass strewn steps, the door comes smashing down on the floor and they're in the house.
There's no time for being silent as we pelt up to the top of the house. Now disoriented I look around our new surroundings.
"Pidge!"
I point to the double bed that's in the centre of the room.
"We need to get that in front of the door."
We throw all our weight at it, Matt tries to help but he's too weak to do much, instead having to collapse against the wall.
Painfully slowly in comparison to the racing of feet that are coming up the stairs, it shifts along the floor to hold the door closed."What do we do now?"
Matt, raising a shaking hand, points to a sky light.
Pidge sprints over as bodies start being thrown at the door.
A very handily placed chair means they can get a palm up to the tilted glass."It's locked!"
The bed starts shift along the floor. I push against it with all the fore I can muster.
Matt starts looking on top and the through the drawers where he is."Break it!"
"With what?!"Matt runs over with trophy in hand.
With an ear splitting smash that only increases the groans outside the pane of glass shatters.
Pidge is through it in a flash, and I run over to give Matt a leg up. Pidge pulls him through and I clamber through.
I feel like a hand tried to grab my ankle but it must've been my imagination because only after I'm through does the door open enough for for the corpses to stream in to where we just were.If anyone actually reads this crap then I'm sorry I'm so bad at updating; I've got lots of stuff going on and I just don't get much chance or feel up to writing often.
