Contains Coming Home by Shepherd.

Shadow, age 30 (damn she's getting old!)

Blood pounded in my ears as the familiar swooping of dragon wings gave away the position of one of the giant lizards, my trusty steed, Ice, staying calm. I drew my ebony bow, nocking three wicked elven arrows and waiting for the vile dragon to show it's crusty face. Eyes narrowed, I strained my ears for any and all sound of the huge beast.

I've been stuck in motion
Moving too fast
Tryna catch a moment but it slips through my hands
All I see are long days and dark nights
I'm lost without you, but I'm on my way, so hold tight

Could I not travel in peace without being attacked by dragons, harassed by bears and Sabre cats, annoyed by thieves and ticked off by wolves? Surely a quiet trip wasn't too much to ask of the damnable Nordic divines? Maybe Talos didn't like the edar cheese I left on his shrine yesterday... hmm. I'd have to test that.

I'm coming home tonight
Meet me in the valley where the kids collide into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive (coming alive)
I'm coming home tonight, I know you're ready for the sparks to fly
Into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive
'Cause I'm coming home tonight
'Cause I'm coming home tonight

What made me agree to going back to the Brotherhood was beyond me, but going back to the Thieves Guild? Was I truly mad? Maybe Cicero had rubbed off on me... hmm. I'd have to test that theory on Lydia, the thick housecarl who couldn't tell left from right and had no idea how to extract arrows from her own body. That was why she looked like a pin cushion.

I'm coming home tonight
Meet me in the valley where the kids collide into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive (coming alive)
I'm coming home tonight, I know you're ready for the sparks to fly
Into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive
'Cause I'm coming home tonight
'Cause I'm coming home tonight

I nailed the dragon square in the head, each arrow hitting it's mark without fail. The beast roared in pain, allowing me to stow my bow and pull out Dragonbane to make the fight go quicker. The dragon tensed, ready to take flight. I, however, pinned it down by it's wing and carved a pretty picture in the wing of the writhing dragon, grinning to myself as I did so.

Don't wanna spend my whole life catching my breath
'Cause I've been running 'round and 'round and 'round
And I've got nothing left
There's nothing like a sunset skyline
To let you know you're almost home
So breathe in, and hold tight

A day later and I was dragging my feet along the road from Whiterun to Ivarstead, eyes half shut and ears flattened. I had a bad case of insomnia, and it was driving me mad. I couldn't sleep no matter what, yet in the day time I was as tired as anything. Groaning and rubbing my eyes, I yawned before punching a wolf in it's snout as it got too close.

Yes, I'm coming home tonight

Two days after that and I had reached Ivarstead, spending a sleepless night in a nearby inn. Ivarstead was a truly miserable little settlement, nestled at the base of the Throat of the World. The town hardly got any sunshine because it was in the shadow of the giant mountain that loomed over it. The next day, I set out for Riften.

Time has a way of diluting emotions
But I won't let distance get in between us, no
Oh, I'm coming home tonight
Meet me in the valley where the kids collide into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive (coming alive)
I'm coming home tonight, I know you're ready for the sparks to fly
Into the morning
Oh my god, my town is coming alive
'Cause I'm coming home tonight
Oh, woah (oh, woah)
Oh, woah (oh)
Oh, woah (oh, woah)
Oh, woah, oh

Back to the old ways.
