A/N:

When I finally made it to shore, I was completely out of breath and drenched in cold lake water from head to toe. The sun was setting, and I didn't know how far the two men had traveled yet, and as one could imagine, I certainly didn't want to run into them by any chance. So, I found an area where the grass and dirt was soft enough for me to rest on, then decided to take cover under the bridge for that night.

As I laid there, a million thoughts and fears ran through my head. "I can't go home now. They'll find out that I'm still alive and kill me along with everyone I care about," I sighed. "And, I don't have enough information and evidence about these people and their organization to file a full report on them, where the government could nail them immediately, without the organization suspecting that I was alive to report them either. All I know is that they have a hideout in Washington D.C., and their headquarters are eight hours away from wherever I am... and that's just not enough."

A spark of hope hit me, "Oh my goodness!! In the midst of all my anxiety, I almost forgot that... I'm in Minnesota," I squealed in excitement. I actually had a small moment of fangirling as I felt some of the joy that had left me early this morning return. "Not sure where exactly in the state I am, but I can't be too far away from Adam and his family, right?!?

The sun had completely fallen, and I relocated myself to where I was in a better position for gazing upon the glistening, star filled Minnesota sky. With the warm, evening breezes caressing me, it wasn't long before I drifted off into a deep slumber.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

The next morning, I was awaken by the sweet song that the wrens were singing. The sun was bright and my clothes were still damp. However, I had actually woken up with an optimistic grin plastered across my face. "I don't know where I am, but I do know where I need to get- Mineral Springs, Owatonna." I knew where Adam's parents lived, since I had sent him some fan mail to that address, and even called their home phone once when I was like 12, leaving a message of myself covering one of his songs (how embarrassing!)

And so, I climbed the hill up to the road, then began to trudge on forward.

I had been heading west, and judging by the suns position, It was easy to assume that I had been following the quiet road for about three hours, before I finally reached a main road. By the time I got there, I was so dehydrated and exhausted from the beating heat. But just then, I saw a road sign indicating that I was approaching Rochester, MN.  Again, I squealed, "That's not too far from Owatonna!" My holt quickly reversed into a sprint.

Now, completely out of breath, I stopped. I had finally made it to a city where there were stores and possibly phones of which I could potentially borrow... "Maybe I could try calling Joan and Randy's landline," I thought.

I walked into a large, populated Wal-Mart, and was refreshed by the chill air conditioning in the new atmosphere, opposing the dreadful heat outside. After walking in past the entrance, there was a designated area for customer service to my right, and I decided I would go ask an employee if I could use one of their phones. "Who's to say that they will even answer my call," I began to doubt. "But it's worth a shot, aye?"

I was standing in line behind two other customers when I noticed the kind-looking older woman in the line beside mine, speaking with another customer service man. I assumed she was about in her early sixties, and she looked like she was making a extange, when the man helping her from behind the desk spoke, "Thank you so much for your patience, Mrs. Young. We do apologize for the inconvenience earlier, and hope you have a fine afternoon."

"Mrs. Young??" I questioned in a volume much louder than I had intended on speaking in. It was apparently just loud enough for her to hear me, since she turned her head towards me with a curious look scrambled on her face.

I looked her directly in the eyes, warm and brown, and when I did, I saw Adam's eyes. She was without a doubt Adam's mother, Joan Young.

The brown eyed woman asked, "Did you need something, sweetie?" I replied with nothing more that a stunned face, then turned away from her, still looking for real clarification that she was who I had strongly assumed her to be. Joan shrugged, then began to walk away.

"Wait," I shouted, as I ran to catch up with her back at the entrance. "Ma'am, are you-" I paused. She patiently waited for me to finish my sentence. "Are you Mrs. Young as in Joan Young... As in Adams mom," I questioned. She let out an airy giggled, then nodded yes with a sweet smile. "Are you a fan?" asked Joan. I blushed, while showing her my rubber bracelet I still wore on my wrist. "I'm his biggest fan!" Then I sighed. "But, that's not why I was looking for you. Well, it kinda of is, because I wouldn't know you as a safe person to look for if I didn't know of Adam. I actually came to this store to get a phone, so I could try calling you. Anyways, I'm in a not so great situation, and I need to ask you something.. But, in private," I began. She gave me a loving look, then offered to talk in her car, and I took the offer. When we got inside her vehicle, she had a face full of compassion that told me she wanted me to continue on with what I needed to say.

After I spilled everything to her about what had happened yesterday, and explained why it was so important that I stay hidden for now, and why we mustn't make any reports yet, she was beyond understanding, and promised to do her best to keep me and my family safe. And, in the meantime, she told me she had a space for me to stay in her own home. I thanked her more than I think I have ever thanked a person in my life, and told her I would return the favor someday. I also thanked God for putting all of this into place, ever so perfectly.
