I Remember
I remember
I remember last summer
The blistering heat
Shrouded out by the smell of fresh popcorn
And the flighty excitement from flapping mouths
So ready for a day of adventureI remember
The thrilling fear
Built up by the idea of a new experience
And the fluttering of featherless wings in my stomach
Pushing my legs into movement as if a baby were taking it's first stepsI remember
The utter exhilaration
Screaming out of my diaphragm
And changing chords with each twist and turn
I was blind to the danger around me
With my vision being tucked away into safety
For fear of lossI remember it all
I remember you
I remember
The curious gaze which remained unflinching from the corner of my eye
Whether it was disgust or interest,
I never did ask
I did not need toI remember
Your breezy intrusion
Your voice sweeping through my ear
And calling out a welcome invasion into my room of new memories
Immediately becoming a kindred soulI remember
Your final presence
Entering my line of sight with an unwilling wave
And walking,
Step by
Step,
Away from me
(Or was it me from you?)That tiny detail slips my mind
Like your name which I never asked
Rendering my shyness my only regret
And keeping you a sweet memoryI remember it
I remember last summer
I remember it all
But most of all
I remember you
