I readied my blade for another attack.
"You have performed well"
I spun to slay my opponent.
"Sensai, you scared me."
"I sense you are ready for the real enemy"
"That was just training!?"
The sensai chuckled. "The real one will be much harder, but you are ready."
"When does the real dragon come?"
"Within the day, we shall assemble the warriors, but for now, go drink and relax."
Though the dragon was on his way, music and song danced about the city of light. If we won then there was nothing to fear. If we were to die, then we at least would be happy the night before.
Asleep I fell into the softness of my bed and I awoke to the sound of musicians.
I primed my blade. Polished my armor. And sturdied my soul.
Behold the dragon. Three serpents entwined each other. There scales shiny turquoise, faces of sandstone, embedded with the markings of the gods.
The musicians played a song of dispelling to fracture the creatures aura.
One foot forward. I ran two fingers down the face of the blade. The blade came to life with a glow the color of the sun.
The Æther dragon spiraled toward me. Then a blast as its aura shattered. I remembered the guide to mastering the Vorsica blade.
One, always steps back to entice the enemy into the trail of your blade.
Two, never trap yourself in the trail, always leave an exit.
Three, always strike first.
I swung, the blade leaving a sharp trail of light behind it.
The dragon crashed into it exploding the trail.
I jumped, rolling to the ground as I was hit by the shock wave.
The serpent slid along the ground in flames as the other two unfurled, spiraling away.
The musicians switched to a song of whim, my blade resonated the sound as it rang with a metallic hum, my Vorsica now lighter. The dragon came in for a second attack, both mouths open.
An ethereal cloud of stars shot from its mouth igniting the ground.
I swung my blade in a circle leaving a shield shape of fire in the air. The cloud of fire blasted around me as the trail blocked it. Leaping, I gouged into the dragon's underbelly, the trail slicing it all the way down. Its carcass slopped to the ground with a fleshy thud.
One more dragon.
The last serpent flew high into the air, crescendoing into a downward spiral.
With terminal velocity, it sped to meet me.
I would go to meet it.
With each leap, I sliced making a fiery step to launch my next jump. Jump. Slice. Land.
With the rhythm of the musicians keeping my blade afloat, I climbed to meet the dragon.
With one final jump, I made as I fell the ground.
The trail split the serpents face. Each step exploding under its speed and weight.
The dragon came to rest on top of the final step. Its flesh sizzling against the hot energy.
Then a rumbling.
That was too easy.
I readied my blade for another attack.
"You have performed well"
I spun to slay my opponent.
"Sensai, you scared me."
"I sense you are ready for the real enemy"
"That was just training!?"
The sensai chuckled. "The real one will be much harder, but you are ready."
