Though life had started many thousands of years before, its potential would not be realized til this day. A story of loss and sorrow would bring new life. Life which would forever change the balance of nature. This is the story of the pioneers, venturers to a brave new world.

Silence encapsulated their world. A world of fractal mass, living structures morphed and evolved into people and vessels. This was the way of the Dorakin, all of their world made of the same harmonic element. This fabric is all that was, making life in all its shapes and outside it there was no other. But today the one and great Dorakin Pioneer would journey into a new an unexplored space, he would enter the rift. The idea of anything outside the harmonic mass brought great fear and wonder into the souls of the void.

The metallic platform that the pioneer stood on began to grow out and away from the mass. It expanded further into ethereal gray darkness. Many beings stood watching as the platform began to break into floating segments which grew into a capsule. The skin morphed and changed hue as it built itself shape after shape. Even this defined the very ideals of the void. One shape built by hundreds of the same shape. Those shapes formed by yet hundreds more of the same. Perfect harmony built by the singular mass that made up all that existence.

The capsule then engulfed the Pioneer, its aura increasing as a gray haze. The pioneer reached out his hand on the core which swelled from the air. upon there collision a reflective bubble appeared around it and grew engulfing the capsule.

Suddenly a thunderous clap, the bubble turned inside out as what was called, the universe quickly filled the void. His eyes grew wide, taking in the sight. White lights littered the blackness as far as the eye could see. There seemed to be no end to them. And below him a large sphere, it size seeming even more than that of the Mass. Its edges lit up a brilliant orange and red as an orb of pure white crested its brim. Patches of green and white filled the ball below. The brilliant light made dots all along the bodies of dark gray. Suddenly the orb around him began to collapse, it had lost its reflective appearance and began tuning to smoke. Soon the Mass capsule also turned a fine vapor. He didnt understand. He had been many things. Sometimes his mass was a vessel for others, sometimes he inhibited the structures they lived in. But it had never felt like this. He felt the capsule disappearing, It became nothing more, simply gone. The beautiful new world had began to consume him, replacing his lost substance with increasing fear. The fear of ceasing to exist.

He noticed below him that the speckled ball began to grow larger and larger. His capsule began to emit orange light and streaked away from the dark ball, as if fleeing the inescapable darkness. In a short time the capsule was gone and he began suffering the same fate. Soon the black speckle filled sky was obscured by a purple veil. He began rushing past puffy white vapors. He watched as his limbs fled, streaking away in a furious orange light only to peeter out. Then he felt nothing.

The impeding dark muttled sphere stopped. At first it seemed everything had stopped. But he noticed, the white vapors now reflecting a pinkish light were twirling and dancing. They evolved from one shape to another. Smaller forms would merge together making larger ones. Repeating designs built upon one another. The bright orb grew lighter now illuminating the dark plane below him. He began to see textures. Some glossy and reflective, some matte and bristling. There he sat, for how long he didnt know. He learned that the bright orb would come and go, but every time it disappeared he knew it would return. Sometimes a lesser light would follow chasing the larger one. He wondered if the lights would one day reach one other. The plane below grew white. Soon everything became white. The sun would no longer appear sometimes. The once glossy shiny bodies below now became translucent hard whisps. it was during this time he realized how he felt. He felt nothing. He had always been a part of something. He longed to be in harmony.

Then something he saw. A shape, a dark shape struggled through the white. With each movement it appeared to sink further and further in. Its movements seemed erratic. They were not predictable like the lights above him. It began making sounds, he had heard the sounds before, but he had not felt them. Pain. He felt pain. Why did he feel pain? But until this point he had felt nothing. Looking back down the dark figure was no longer moving.

The pioneer began to move. He could go anywhere, at first slowly but soon faster. The figure then grew details, colors, textures. This figure was so much complex than anything around him. Then a sound.

"Hello?" The figure began to move again.

"Are"...Silence The figure stopped briefly

"Are you there?"

From here he realized the white blanket below was not solid, but made of little shapes all stuck to one another, they clung to the figure who know attempted to get up.

The sound "Hello" echoed through my head. I tried to make the sound, but I heard nothing. Yet the figure seemed to react. Its sound grew loud and fast as it repeated it.

"Hello! Where are you?"

I repeated "Where are you?"

"I am over here!" The figure now completely unfurled now much resembled my former likeness.

It began to flail arms.

"Can you hear me?"

I repeated "Can you hear me?"

"Yes I can hear you"

The figure began frantically looking around. Then I heard another sound, this sound made me feel afraid.

I repeated "Hello?" again, but the figure did not respond but began to crouch growing silent.

Another figure appeared, this one seemed to crawl rather than walk like the first figure, this one also appeared much more textured having bristles all over its body. It was moving slowly towards the other figure. It wreaked of fear and panic.

Then I felt sadness as the crouching figure mumbled sounds I did not understand.

The bristled figure then leapt at the first. Then once again I felt nothing, the two grew silent, but the bristled figure kept moving as the other turned red, he grew covering the white ground. I felt the two becoming one. But they did not make each other stronger. One faded away while the other grew strong.

I later learned that this is the way of this world. I watched as energy merged from form to another, never disappearing but only changing. In many way this world was not so unlike my own. I learned that most of the figures called themselves humans. I learned many things from them. I traveled across this world and learned all its wonders, I felt there joy, their sadness, their triumph. But I was not one with them, I wanted to be.....human.

Then one day I began watching a human. They called her Sarah. I began to watch Sarah more than the others. I would often stand beside her as she cooked. I longed to smell the food, to feel the heat from the stove. I longed to be a part of Sarah. But one day a beast came down from the mountains, It brought fear and anger with it. The humans tried to kill it, but they could not. I wanted to help but I couldn't, then I saw Sarah, there she lie. She was returning to the ground. She turned red and seeped between the stones seeking refuge in the ground. There she would hide, she would be safe from the perils of life. I could feel her life in the ground. It was tangible, more tangible then anything I had felt. I lifted up the blood soaked soiled. I couldn't believe what was happening. I took the soil and shaped it in my hands, I felt I could do so much more. But I needed to learn, but I couldn't lose Sarah. I watched as the beast ate the remains of those around it. I couldn't let her become part of the monster that killed her.

So I lifted her body with life still left in it and I took her into the sky, I didnt know where I was going. But anywhere had to be better. I kept going. Soon I found the place where I had arrived. The place it started. There in space I sat. Sarah drifting by my side. I watched the sun set on the planet of death. I wondered why my people had not come for me? Is this how I would live the rest of my life, alone and forgotten. The only one I ever really felt, a human who had never seen me, one who didnt know me. She believed that the voices in her head were only an illness, a flaw of a broken mind. But it was me.

So there I left here. floating, watching the the sun set. I went on to meet new races and new planets, but I never forgot Sarah, and one day I would return for her.

In this time I grew so much more, i began to control the elements around me. I learned to give myself a body. I was finally able to interact with environment around me. But i still could not feel, I could not smell the air or feel the sun, or the soil beneath. And still the cycle continued as life started and ended. The sun rose and set. The drum of time marched on.

It was then that I return to Sarah. I gave her a piece of me, I gave her new life. She would be an immortal being like me. She would not age, and through her I could feel the world. She would be humanities guardian. Their immortal protector. Humanities one of renown, so I called her Rephaim. She grew to be so strong, she quickly surpassed the knowledge her fellow humans. She protected them from the many threats of life. So I went and gave guardians to each and every planet, I could make a difference, protect a million planets through my extension. And in turn, feel there pain, feel their victory, love, passion, knowledge.

But it quickly ended, nations began to fight over the power of the Rephaim, they became the weapons of war. Soon all I felt was death, pain, loss. Some fled to the stars leaving their kin to squabbles of their kingdoms of dust. Other fought back from the insanity they endured. In the end, they became like me. The Rephaim were lost lonely creatures, plagued by the cruelty of our universe.
