While Diego was at the Sharks practice, Gigi was darting through throngs of students, trying to be the first one out the door.
"Watch it!" Someone hissed at the aspiring journalist as she hit their shoulder.
"Who do you think you are?" Another student glared.
"I am Miss Information in the middle of the story of the century!" Gigi snapped at the rude classmates, "So you better step aside."
Sadly, that approach only made everyone in front of her block her every move to get ahead. She was stuck at the tail end of the crowd.
When she finally broke free of the human traffic, she was outside the front steps of the school. The Miami sun beat down on her and Gigi wished she was wearing a light dress instead of a stuffy uniform at once. She watched the students run to catch the bus or hop on their bikes or talk with their friends. Normally this was Gigi's favorite time of day, she could always hear lots of gossip for her show. But today she needed to go straight home. There was no time for hanging around. Diego would get back from practice at 4:00!
So Gigi swiftly started walking on the sidewalk to her house.
"Wait!" She heard a voice behind her as she was half a block away from high school.
Gigi turned her head. It was Maddie Van Pelt awkwardly running to catch up to Gigi in her tall heels.
Gigi paused reluctantly until Maddie was beside her. You never refuse a Panther- that was just the Iridium High way. Although Gigi was surprised that the queen bee of the school wanted to talk to her.
"Hey, Maddie." She greeted, "What's up?"
Maddie took a few seconds to catch her breath. In that time, Gigi wondered why she was alone. She'd never seen Maddie without at least one of the Panthers. Yet here she was by herself.
Maddie immediately looked at the ground, like she regretted talking to Gigi in the first place.
"Um, hello?" Gigi asked, "Maddie? Sorry, I'm just in a bit of a rush."
"Oh never mind then." Maddie said, waving her perfectly polished hand to the side.
"Are you sure?"
"Oh yeah," Maddie said unconvincingly.
Gigi thought she would never understand that girl. "Ok then I'll see you-"
"Fine!" Maddie snapped, but in a manner like she was doing Gigi a favor by going on, "I just want you to tell me something."
"What?" The inner journalist inside Gigi was hooked. She was shocked when she found out.
"What does Diego like?" Maddie rushed with a shy smile.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me!" Maddie hissed, then she took Gigi's hand and pulled the two of them around the block, out of earshot from the rest of the school.
"Um, sorry," Gigi stammered searching for the right words, "Why do you want to know?"
"No reason." Maddie said.
"Do you like him?!" Gigi gasped.
"What no, of course not." Maddie scoffed, "Just theoretically if I did, what should I do?"
Gigi's smile was huge. Maddie Van Pelt liked Diego! This would be a huge story for Miss Information.
"He likes pizza." She said, already thinking of the cool titles for the post as she rattled off random things her brother liked, "Swimming, cooking, American Ninja Warrior, sunglasses-"
