Chapter Twelve:Steel Magnolias

~Five Months Later~

I groan as I raise up from my bed and walk well more like waddled outside and the war against the saviors is still raging just yesterday we had another battle against them there were alot of casualties we lost sasha and also eric I place my hand on my bump my sister said that when she saw dad at alexandria he asked where I was and she said I was protecting the baby and right now as we speak rick has him locked up in morgan's old cell.

I wish he had gotten killed but after what he did to abraham and for mentally hurting carl and killing spencer and olivia and for making carl feel self concious about his eye and I waddle down the porch steps and I see tara and rosita sitting on there porch hand in hand they had gotten together after rosita had gotten shot on one of the battles daryl and I had gotten closer over the course of my pregnancy I am wearing a white long sleeve shirt with a pair of coveralls daryl had found me a pair when he went out on a run.

I rub my bump and I hear the sound of daryl's motorcycle drive right through the walls of alexandria we had moved back down here a few days ago rick said he thought it was safe for now daryl stops his bike in front of his house and we had rebuilt the walls and I walk over to him I put my hand on my bump and he looks up at me and smiles he walks over to me and he says "hey how's little man?".

I smile and he touches my bump his hand looked massive on my bump his hands were rough like they always have been since the day I met him "he's fine keeps me up half the night I think he senses i'm awake and he goes crazy and if I can't get comfortable neither can he" he chuckles and he takes his hand off of my bump I feel him starting to move I put my hand where he moved and then I say "he likes listening to you talk".

Daryl chuckles and I place his hand where he's moving and daryl's eyes widened and he gets this bright smile on his face and that day was just cleaning up around alexandria and it was one of the worst ones yet according to daryl i'm not supposed to go near the bodies or the walkers or the saviors and it was one hot day today so I decided to make them some strawberry lemonade it's an old recipe of my families my memaw would make it every summer before my moma got sick.

I juice six lemons and mix in the sugar and add four cups of water and I cut up and puree some strawberries and add them to the lemonade and after I pour them in some mason jars and walk down the streets passing out lemonade to some of the workers and I got to rick,daryl,lucy and geno last and luke and lucy says "this is memaws old recipe isn't it?".

I nodd and smile "before mom passed she let me in on the recipe" I hold one out to daryl and he drinks it up so does rick and he puts the mason jar on his forehead he is beating up with sweat and he's in a muscle tshirt I hold out my hand for his cup and he passes it to me I take a drink and judith runs over to me and layes her head on my bump and she exclaims and giggles and looks at daryl and she says "baby kicked me".

His face is priceless "she did? the dixon baby is moving like crazy huh?" I nodd with a smile and I ask her "want some strawberry lemonade?" she nodds with a smile "aunty ember berry lemonade" she grabs my hand and she looks at her dad and I ask "ask yer daddy" she looks at him and starts to pout he smiles softly at her and he pokes her lip "put that lip away ye gonna trip on it" I smile and he nodds she grabs my hand and I pick her up and place her on my hip and I say "say daddy we'll be right back" as she grabs my hand and we walk away I turn to see daryl and rick smiling at us I return the smile.

We make it to rick's house and I grab her sippy cup and she follows behind me and we go to my house and put some in her sippy cup and we walk back outside her securely on my hip and rick is laughing something at what glenn said and daryl walks over to us and he says "come ere muchkin" I giggle and he places her on his hip and he says "can uncle daryl have a hug?" she wraps her tiny arms around his neck I smile and I say to him "you know your gonna be a good dad" he smiles at me softly and judy giggles and she nodds and he places her down on the ground I feel him starting to kick.

I grab her hand and place it where the dixon baby was at and I say "try talking to her or him judy" she rubs my bump "hi baby" I feel a kick where her hand is and she giggles "he kicked me" I run my hand through her hair and I ask "what do you think it is?".

She smiles at me and carl walks over from working I pass him a cup and enid places her hand on my bump "I think it's boy" I shrug and look at daryl and I say "I don't know he thinks it's a girl but I can't tell" he smiles at me and that day when we got done I walked home and that night when I walked downstairs and into the kitchen I have a craving of mac and cheese and potatoes with garlic seasoning I had started cutting up the potatoes and was gonna put it in my copper grill and I look through the pantry trying to find the mac and cheese but I can't find any I hear a knock on my door I look behind me and walk over and open the door to see it's daryl I smile and I ask "do you have any mac and cheese in your house?".

He chuckles and nodds "i'll be right back" he disappears off of my porch and I close my door and wait for him to come back and keep looking at my potatoes and grilling them up and he walks in and he says "i'm gonna make you some homemade macoroni and cheese that alright it'll only take a little bit but it is worth it" I nodd with a smile "I trust you" he gets this bright smile on his face he grabs a pot and starts boiling the water and he starts to put the elbow noodles into the boiling pot I keep sneaking glances at him this is how I pictured it me late night making food for the baby.

I smile and after the homemade mac and cheese gets done we sit in front of the couch in the floor as we watch steel magnolias lucy had gotten it before she left the sanctuary he sits it in front of me a whole bowl I look at him and put the spoon in my mouth and the cheese is so thick and it tastes awesome I look at him "how did you get the cheese so thick like that?" he smiles and I pass him the spoon he eats it too "it's the mustard and worcestershire sauce it makes it thicken".

I nodd in approval "this is good dare" he smiles at me and pass him the spoon and I grab me another one and I grab a fork and grab a potato and eat it and he says "can I try it?" I nodd and I grab another one on my fork and pass him the fork and tries it he nodds in approval "that's good red what's all on it?" I smile and lean back onto the couch and I reply "salt pepper and garlic powder".

I drink some water and I feel him move I giggle "he must had liked the mac and cheese" he chuckles and I place his hand where the dixon baby was and I look up at him and see his eyes focused on my bump and his eyes had some much love and affection in them and I smile and at that very moment I fell more in love with daryl.

After our moment I lay my head on his shoulder as we watch the movie and it got to the part where shelby had passed away I feel tears roll down my cheeks he leans up and grabs a kleenex and passes it to me I sniffle and he asks "what happened to her? I thought she'd be fine after she got m'lynn's kidney?" I wipe my tears away and I giggle sadly "kidney failure she got pregnant with jack jr because back in them days they wouldn't give a baby to a girl with her medical record".

He wraps his arm around me and I continue "jack jr weakened her veins and her organs and when she got the kidney from her mom her body rejected it" he runs his hand through my hair I keep wiping the tears away and he says "that's so sad but red don't cry your gonna upset colt" I roll my eyes and smile sadly at him and lay my head on his shoulder.
