Chapter Ten:The Champion

Daryl's p.o.v

We drive the bikes through the hilltop gates paul,lucy and I she helped us escape from the sanctuary and she wanted to get us out of there and I scream as soon as I stop the bike "maggie" she comes running out of the trailer and she exclaims "what happened?" I pick red up bridal style "negan whipped her with a leather whip ye gotta help er" she nodds and glenn runs out and he screams "carson you gotta help her" I carry her inside the trailer and maggie gasps "oh my god ember what did he do to you?".

I step outside and glenn asks when I sit on the front porch of the medical trailer "what happened daryl?" I bite my lower lip and look up at him with tearful eyes "he tied her to a fence and he whipped er with a leather whip a long one" maggie starts to cry glenn comforts his wife and I say "she went nuts at alexandria when she didn't see either one of you there and lucy she helped get us out" I do my head towards ember's sister and I ask "why did you help?".

She raises her head towards us "because I want it stopped today when she was getting her lashings made me realize he needs to be dealt with there's something you need to know daryl" I look at her through my hair and she says "she's pregnant".

Phoenix's p.o.v

I stir awake and I see daryl,clementine,glenn,lucille and enid stand in the infirmary I groan and daryl grunts "red?" I groan and maggie says "ember?" I smile at her and I say my voice coming out hoarse "hi maggie" she smiles at me and glenn grabs my hand and I whimper "hey glenn" he kisses my hand "hey ember are you okay?" I nodd and I try to raise up but daryl stops me "you need to rest red" I look at him through narrowed eyes "I just wanna raise up that's all".

Glenn raises it up for me and he says "i'll go get dr carson" when glenn returns he comes back with the docter and he says "hi ember i'm dr carson" I smile at him and he asks "how are you feeling?" I nodd and smile at him "i'm fine just my back hurts" he smiles and nodds at me and he asks "and did you know your with child?".

I look at daryl and I nodd slightly daryl jumps from his seat and walks out and slams the door maggie grabs my hand and I ask "is the baby okay? she wasn't hurt when I got the lashings was she?" he shakes his head "no the baby is fine I done did an ultrasound and I found the heartbeat it wasn't good with the stress but looks like you got tough little baby in there" I sigh with relief and look down at my legs "thank god" he smiles and I put my hand on my stomach and he leaves and I start to cry she wraps me in her arms and so does sasha and I whimper "sasha why don't you hate me?".

She grabs my chin and raise my eyes to her "it wasn't your fault honey at first yeah I felt betrayed that you didn't tell us and now that i've met negan I know why now we may not be tied together through blood but we love you for who you are" I cry into her shoulder and maggie helps me change my bandages and I say "maggie? sasha? I need your help in getting me outside".

Sasha shakes her head "you can't move what if you hurt your back even more?" I look at her and put on a brave smile and I say "i'll be fine just set up a chair and lucille?" she looks at me I try to smile but it most likely came out as a grimace "I need you to go grab the cd that laura made it's in my backpack with my notebook".

She smiles sadly with a nodd after maggie and sasha get everything set up outside enid and clementine help me outside I grab my music and I look down at my feet and don't look at anyone yet I close my eyes and I wait for my music to start to play and when I hear the cue for me to sing I sing the first lyric.

I'll be the last one standing
