The comfort of fabric enveloped you as you sunk into the cushioned seating. Light from the grey foggy morning spilled from the grand windows at the side of the dark room, providing ample lumination. The room smelled of wood, paper and ink which gave it a very rustic atmosphere.

Perusing the book in your hands, you gave out a disgruntled noise. The words made contact with your field of vision but would not register. Frustrated by the binded pages that made you feel stupid, you flung the book over your head. The matter was now literally behind you.

A thud sound was to be expected as the book hit the floor, but no such sound was heard. Curious, you turned your head to find that it had been caught by a dark grey hand. Your body scuffled to the edge of the couch, taken by surprise by the man who's presence you did not notice until now.

"Now what did the book ever do to you?" EJ asked as he fiddled with the pages.

"Jack! What are you---"

"EJ."

"EJ. Right." You really had to get used to that. "What brings you here?"

"Studying. Slender's personal library has a section on medical books. Boss doesn't like me getting rusty," he explained, still transfixed on your thrown away book. He flipped through the pages at lightning speed; there was no way he could have read anything on there. "Didn't pin you as the type to be into historical romance."

You looked at the book in EJ'S hand for a moment.

"Ja-- Er, EJ."

"Yes, Slenderman fangirl?"

"The book is upside down."

He turned the book to look at the cover. "So it is," he admitted, rather non-chalantly you might add. He handed it back to you and took a seat on the other side of the couch. He produced a large tome seemingly out of nowhere; its cover showed the x-ray of a man's torso. "It all looks the same when you're blind. Better just stick to reading my own stuff," he added, and you could tell a part of him was joking.

You felt vexed. Here was this man, supposedly without eyes and unable to see, reading a medical book of all things. And this wasn't the only time he has made you question the integrity of his disability. Oh no. There was the prescription, the reflexes, the time in your bed chambers....

"You're staring."

Your head perked up, "huh?"

"You've been staring at me," EJ pointed out.

Looking up, you realized you indeed were. The book you had been reading was lifted up to your face, covering just below your eyes. You had been peaking at him this whole time.

Out of nowhere, you started fumbling with your book. "I apologize! I did not mean to make you uncomfortable. It's just that..."

Head bowed, you looked up at EJ sitting across from you. His head rested lazily on his hand as he leaned against the arm of the couch. The medical book was opened on his other palm. He looked so level-headed; it put your shaky stature to shame.

"I wanted to ask," You finally began to say, "Can you really not see?"

You heard him laugh a little, which irked you a bit. "I was wondering when you were going to ask that," he answered, "Yes, I am blind."

"But your reflexes! The prescription for Sally, the reading, the writing... You're lying to me, aren't you?"

"I told you before, I'm not lying." As he spoke, you thought briefly of when he touched your face. "Okay, well, technically I'm legally blind, or something close to that."
