Chapter 5

School that Friday went well. I got through it so that's all that matters.

I just wish some people talked to me, or at least made an effort to acknowledge me.

School was always the same. It wasn't even about learning anymore. It was about being popular or having a boyfriend or getting A's.

I was looking forward to the weekend because my mom and I were going to go to the mall and find an outfit to wear to my audition.

The outfit was very VERY important. You need to stand out from the others and establish yourself as a star.

I had mixed feelings about bringing my mom with me because I knew she would say things like "that's way too bright" "that's not appropriate" "are you sure you want to wear that?" But at the same time, I didn't want to go alone and end up picking something horrendous. If I had a trustworthy friend, I would bring one, but those don't exist in my life.

I wanted my style to represent who I want to be as a celebrity, and I knew I didn't want to be crazy. I was going for something more toned down. I had a look in my mind that was straight hair, big eyelashes, and perhaps colorful nails- but it would all depend on what I found today.

My mom and I pulled up to a mall (the closest mall with a wide variety of stores was 45 minutes away) and parked in the garage.

"Where do you want to start?" she asked.

"I don't care. I want to put together a complete outfit by the end of the day, and it may all be from different stores, so let's go in every single store and see what we find," I announced.

I had saved up all my baby sitting money combined with my Papa Gino's money for the past year in hopes of a meet and greet, but I decided this would be more important.

This is kind of like a meet and greet, because if I choose my outfit successfully, it could help me get through auditions, and meet the judges (Demi Lovato).

By the end of the day I had found an entire outfit. I decided on a pop look that was kind of teen-y but wasn't slutty and showed that I was young.

I went into what felt like a million stores, but there were only a few that had what I was looking for.

There was a headband that wrapped around my head and looked a little like a scarf but wasn't as thick. It was bright pink and had some sequins. For a top, I bought a fitted black crop top with thick sequined stripes. The sequins were'nt large and didn't make it look like I was 5. I bought pink skinny jeans that were more like leggings than jeans.

Yes my stomach was showing.

No it is not a sin. Deal with it. You've seen a stomach before.

I decided on not wearing any jewelry in case I was going to be forced to dance, but I knew I was going to straighten my long brown hair, maybe even get my hair ombre'ed.

My mom and I sat at a table in the food court after we got McDonald's milkshakes.

"Well I'm glad you found something," my mom said.

"Me too. I hope the producers think it has the X Factor," I said, chucking at my own stupid jokes.

"If it was up to me, the competition would be just your voice, not your clothing," my mom said.

"There are other singing competitions for that, mom," I responded.

"Excuse me?" A girl about my age said from the table next to me. She sat by herself, and had shoulder length light brown hair and blue eyes, and she could have been a model with her body- tall and lean. "I over heard your conversation, not intentionally, but, you're not, um, auditioning for the X Factor, you know, the singing competition, are you?"
