Bella and Jacob walked along the sand. Jacob seemed distracted, but Bella was too busy worrying to notice.
"Gosh, it's so pretty here," she breathed out. "So, Alice is planning a big graduation party - which you're invited to."
Jacob scoffed in response.
Bella sighed. "Yeah, I figured that. What?"
"I just wanted to do this differently - smoother. But now, I'm out of time," Jacob replied.
"To what?"
"You need to hear the truth, Bella. Understand all your options. You need to know...that I'm in love with you. And I want you to choose me, instead of him," Jacob told her.
Bella stared at him, for a while before answering. "I thought you understood. I don't feel that way for you."
Jacob shook his head. "I don't buy it."
Bella groaned. "What don't you buy? That's how I feel."
"You feel something else for me, but you just won't admit it. So I'm not giving up. I'm gonna fight for you - until your heart stops beating."
Bella rolled her eyes. "Well, then you're not gonna have to fight for long."
"You're rushing into it because you're afraid you'll change your mind."
"No, I'm not," she spat out. "I know what I want."
Jacob put his hands on her shoulders. "You wouldn't have to change for me, Bella, or say goodbye to anybody. I can give you more than him. I mean, he probably can't even kiss you without hurting you." He put his hand to her cheek. "Feel that? Flesh and blood and warmth."
Suddenly, he kissed her. Bella pushed against him angrily, but he pulled her tighter to him. Eventually, when he broke away from her, Bella punched him in the cheek. There was a horrible crack as her fist connected to his cheek. He didn't even flinch. Bella recoiled in pain and held her hand to her chest.
"Ow!" she hissed.
"Bella!" Iris shouted.
Bella turned around, shocked. Iris was somehow always there at the right time.
"Get in your pale ass in the car!" she shouted.
Bella nodded, quickly running to the car without even one glance to Jacob. Iris handed her the keys to the car.
"I know your hand is injured and all, but I'm going to talk some sense in that wolf of yours," Iris said. "He can't just touch you without your consent! He can't - "
Bella cut her off. "Save it for Jake, Iris. I think I should get to Carlisle."
Iris nodded. "Yes, yes, go to my dad. Hurry, hurry, don't get into an accident."
