Billy sat in his wheelchair on the porch, surrounded by the pack, including Emily. Bella's truck pulled up. She hurriedly climbed out as Iris hopped down from the passengers seat.

As Bella reached the porch, a loud scream of pain came from inside the house. Bella flinched, as the rest flinched. Emily, who was next to Billy, put an arm around his shoulders.

Quil murmured, "It's been going on for a while."

Embry nodded. "Doc's re-breaking his bones."

Bella had a look of horror and shock on her face.

Leah paced around, unable to keep still. "Why'd he have to butt in? I could've taken that tick - "

"Oh, give it a rest, Leah," Paul snapped.

Iris tried to spread her happiness to Leah first - because she seemed the most hostile right now, but she didn't take it as well as the last time.

"Quit sending me your shit, Iris," Leah snapped. "It's annoying me. I don't need your fake love in me."

Iris nodded and retracted her happiness. Paul narrowed his eyes at Leah.

"You can't talk to her like that," he said to Leah. "You're the reason Jake's in this mess. Iris is just trying to help."

"You think I don't know that this is my fault? But Jake is the one who decided to step in. He didn't have to."

They all turned toward the front door as it opened. Carlisle exited with Sam following close behind.

"The worst is over. He'll be alright," Carlisle told them.

Billy exhaled heavily. Sam put a hand on Billy's shoulder, while Emily wrapped an arm around Sam's waist.

"I gave him some morphine, but his body temperature will burn it off soon. I'll come back to set up a drip," Carlisle said.

"Thank you," Billy said.

Carlisle softly smiled and nodded. "He's asking for you," he said to Bella.

Bella nodded as she slowly walked inside the house. Iris stayed silent, not wanting to bother the other shifters. Paul had no shirt on - as usual. She hooked her finger through the hole of his jeans and tugged on it.

He looked down at her sad face. Paul immediately wrapped his arm around her and brought her in for a hug. He kissed the top of her head.

"It'll be okay. He'll be okay," Paul whispered.

"I don't like that he got hurt. It was supposed to be our fight anyway. I'm sorry you guys got involved."

"If we didn't help, you could have died," Paul replied. "I wouldn't have let that happen."
