The JubJub bird bowed it's head. "Son of Adam has once passed my body, along with my protection. Continue, for next challenge is near, listening for you." It flew away with digest written on its face. My grip tightened on the hilt.
The next challenge awaited.
I stepped towards the tree, as the wind subsided. A slab of mossy gravel, half buried, became noticeable. Medium size, but undetectable until last moment. I put my free hand on the rock, but jerked it back as soon as my fingertips touched the edgy surface.
The split second feeling of ice was gelid.
"You dare edge closer, even still?" A voice said. I cringed at the intoxicating sound, but...who said it?
The ground rumbled and shook. White knuckling, I watched the rock sink into the ground with a hiss.
What could it be? Earthquake?
The earth split, creating a gap. A black silhouette climbed out with growls and moans. It was twice the size of a bear.
"Who are you?" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
"My name is the Bandersnatch. A beast of two collided to equal something much more."
It was then I relized it wasn't talking at all, but its voice was in my head.
