Voice

I cupped the mic with my hand, the other hand holding onto the one earphone pressed to my ear. The more I sang, the harder the grip on both items became, eyes squeezing shut in frustration.

"Miso!" Yoongi called through the headset. I panted, inhaling deep breaths as I turned to look through the glass window that ran through the middle of the studio. "Don't push yourself too hard. If the note is too high for you to reach then we'll just talk to PD-nim and maybe-"

"No," I cut in, swallowing and trying to catch my breath. "I need to at least try."

There was silence from Yoongi before I heard a sigh, followed by his gruff voice saying, "From the top."

Inhaling deeply, I cupped the mic once again and started from the top. I managed to get through the first verse, moving onto the chorus, and then the second verse without any hiccups, relaxing into the soft melody and low notes that my voice was comfortable with. However, when I reached the bridge, my voice cracked, and along with it went my patience.

"Agh!" I yelled, letting my hand slip off the mic and allowing my body to crumble to the floor. "Why can't I get this right?"

The door of the recording room opened and Yoongi jogged in, hesitantly wrapping his arms around my crumpled body. "Maybe you're just having an off day?" he suggested, swaying side to side.

"Yoongi, I've been trying for weeks to get this right," I cried in frustration. "I really wanted to impress ARMY with a high note, just like Jin and Jimin and Jungkook! Girls like IU and Taeyeon and the members of Twice can reach super high notes, and I know for a fact that they're loved by millions. Even Jungkook adores IU!" I continued to wail.

My inner mind was screaming at me to stop, telling me that I don't care, but the words that continuously tumbled from my mouth in strangled cries begged to differ.

"No, no, Miso, stop crying," Yoongi sighed, tightening his arms around me. "ARMY loves your voice. Just because it isn't high and girly like IU's or Taeyeon's, doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. To tell you the truth, sometimes the cutesy aegyo crap just gets annoying," he admitted. "As much as people love cute girls in cute outfits with cute voices, they also love more soothing, lower voices. ARMY will always be impressed by your voice, just as much as Jin or Jimin or Jungkook, so don't worry," he finished.

I drew in a deep breath, letting Yoongi's words sink in as I calmed myself down. When the tears eventually ceased—Yoongi's arms still wrapped around me—I ended up feeling rather sheepish about crying, and wriggled in Yoongi's grip.

"See? Now you're fine," he laughed, letting go. I grinned, rubbing at my eyes a bit before a certain part of Yoongi's little speech flashed in my mind.

"So you don't think I'm cute then?" I asked teasingly, playfully pretending to tear up again.

"You're not cute," Yoongi deadpanned, standing up and walking to the door.

"You're adorable."

"You did so well, Miso!" Jungkook cheered, throwing his arms around me from behind to give me a suffocating back hug.

"You did well too, Kook," I laughed, almost tripping over from the extra weight.

"Don't accidentally kill her, now," Hoseok warned Jungkook with a playful grin as he exited the main recording studio. Jin and Namjoon followed him, discussing what to eat for dinner as celebration for finishing recording, and Jimin and Taehyung exited soon after, engaged in a deep conversation about the benefits of gaming.

"I would never kill Miso!" Jungkook proclaimed in mock offence. I snorted, knowing full well that he's killed me in Overwatch at least a billion times.

"Sure," Hobi replied sarcastically, clearly thinking the same as me. Jungkook blinked innocently before realising what Hoseok and I were telepathically communicating.

"Video games don't count!" he whined. Just then, Yoongi walked out of the studio, closing the door behind him before looking at me with a grin.

"Told you you could do it," he stated proudly. I huffed, playfully punching his arm.

"Only cause you persuaded PD-nim to bring it down an octave," I retorted. The man shrugged, watching Jungkook and Hoseok walk away squabbling.

"ARMY will love it. I promise."
