"Miso, come look at this!" I heard Namjoon yell from the door leading to his studio. I slipped my headphones off and rested them around my neck as I jogged to where he was. Turns out the rest of BTS was gathered in the room laughing so hard that some of them had tears running down their faces. Jimin was on the floor, rolling around with his head in his hands.
"Uh, what's up?" I asked unsurely, hesitantly walking over to where Jin was squeaking with laughter.
"Oh my god," Taehyung gasped, blinking at me for a moment before wheezing again, wiping tears away from his eyes. "Miso you need to see this."
It was only then that I became aware of my own voice playing in the background, barely hearable due to somebody's windscreen wiper laugh. I was already cringing internally.
"What... what is that?" I asked, immediately regretting my decision as soon as Yoongi turned the screen to face me.
Suddenly I feel like throwing myself out the nearest window.
"Wait, wait, everyone shush," Namjoon commanded with a massive grin. He nodded at Hobi stood by the computer, who nodded back and clicked play.
"So Miso is a foreigner?" came the voice of the interviewer. Namjoon on screen nodded, translating it from English to Korean for the rest of the group.
"Ah, really? So where does she come from?"
I groaned, glaring at the screen, already knowing where this is going.
"Oh, my mother and father are both Korean, but we moved to Britain when I was around three where I spent most of my childhood, so I didn't get that much of a chance to learn Korean in my homeland," on-screen me replied in fluent English. "Bangtan—mostly Namjoon—as well as a few other personal tutors had to teach me Korean when I joined BigHit. Well, actually, I'm still learning. I am... really bad at learning new languages." On-screen me laughed nervously. I could remember mentally praying that she wouldn't ask me to demonstrate, but of course it was in vain.
"Seriously? Could you say a sentence in Korean?" the interviewer suggested. I could visibly see myself pull a face.
"Uh, what should I say?"
"How about you compliment Taehyung?"
"Okay, um..." On-screen me took a deep breath—you could almost see the cogs turning in my head—before I licked my lips to speak. "Taehyungie is very delicious."
There was a pause, in which I buried my face in my hands in shame, trying to shield myself from the screen.
Everyone burst into laughter, on-screen Taehyung covering his face with one hand while he wheezed.
"What? Is that not right?" I had asked, puzzled.
"Did-" Namjoon snorted. "Did you mean 'Taehyungie is very cool', not delicious?" he asked with a wide grin.
"Wait, I said delicious? I thought it meant cool?" on-screen me exclaimed.
"There's, like, a one-syllable difference between the Korean words for 'delicious' and 'cool'," Namjoon explained to both me and the interviewer. I blinked several times in thought before gasping.
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry Taehyung," I apologised, earning a loud laugh from the real-time Taehyung. I grimaced at myself on the screen in shame.
"It's okay. I'm sure I'm very delicious too," Taehyung had replied, to which everyone went silent.
"Oh you are, are you?" Jungkook then asked suggestively, wiggling his eyebrows and nudging his friend.
"STOP THE VIDEO, PLEASE," I begged, turning around and smacking my head on the wall. Jungkook burst into laughter, clutching his stomach.
Hoseok paused the video, dabbing at the tears from laughing too hard with a tissue.
"Do you still think Taehyung is very delicious?" Jungkook teased with a wide bunny grin, throwing both arms around my shoulders in muffling embrace.
"How the hell would I know?"
