"Our last night together, it will surely be our best." I smile and put the last dish on to the diner table.
"This looks remarkable Trish, thank you." He gives me a quick kiss before I take a seat.
"Do you want to make the last toast or should I?" I ask, knowing that he has made all of our dinner toast at every meal I have cooked for us.
"Give it a go." He smiles raising his glass.
"Well, I'm not one for toasts, but Zayn, I remember the day I met you, the day you ran into me and made me fall over on to the dirt, by the way my mom wasn't happy about the dirt stain that was on my skirt." Zayns face lights up as the room fills with his laughter, it's a joyous sound that I'll make sure to remember in the next six months.
"Anyway I'm getting off track, but, I believe that the present is a gift, and Zayn my love, I wouldn't want to share the gift of the present with anyone else but you, because I love you. You have waited so long for me to say it, but I love you." I raise my glass and the expression on his face holds shock and excitement.
"I love you." He says back.
"I never did believe in love, but I believe in feeling feelings for someone that were so strong, but now I just say, I've found someone who I know I can trust with my love, all of it, and I hope to never say those words to any one else but you."
"I can't eat now, the happiness is killing me." He flushes, the red on his cheeks looking heavenly as the light above us strikes down.
His hand is placed over mine as we both take a drink from our glasses. The rest of the night is a surprise for Zayn, I want to give him the best night imaginable so he'll remember me as most as possible in the next six months.
His hand is removed from mine and grabs the tiny cross chain I bought him, adjusting it and tucking back under his collar.
"Please don't die out there." I beg of him, leaning my head on my hand and just staring at him, on the brink of tears as cruel thoughts enter my head.
"I promise I will come back to you."
"You are all I've got." I say. "No one has understood me the way you have in the past couple of months, I know I'm not your first love, but I hope I'll always be your last."
"Trish, it doesn't matter if you're my first, second, third or fourth love, you are my love, and my only love. That should be all that matters."
"It is all that matters, I'm glad you said that because it makes me feel so much better." I exclaim, smiling from ear to ear and starting to eat the food on my plate.
An hour later Zayn and I have eaten out food, laughed, and remembering all our old memories. All the way from us meeting on the hot day in Jackson Mississippi, to the next day when we stared at the clouds together when I could barely hold my crap together, and especially the moment where he took me from the world I no longer wanted to be a part of.
The moments, the little ones, at always the ones that mean the most.
I doubt Zayn even remembers that he won me a small bunny at the fair we went to so long ago, he doesn't even know that I still have that bunny in the back of his truck, along with the books he bought me.
