Elegantly, I strutted towards the entrance of my step-mother's hair salon. All that could be heard from the boys were whistling. I pushed the door opened and the bell rang, indicating that somebody had entered the salon. Every head spun towards my direction, making me plaster a smile on my face.

It was an early Monday morning and I didn't want to be here but I had to in order for me to make my money and move out of my fathers house. I walked through the room saying my 'Hello's' and 'Good morning's'. Lord only knows how much I wanna be in bed.

"Good morning, Ma." I kissed my step-mothers cheek.

"Good morning, Jaliyah. You ready for today?" She smiled.

"I guess." I shrugged.

"It's a full house so far. We've got a lot of appointments today so you're gonna have to work extra hard. You're pay check is coming up at the end of the week." She mentioned looking down at her customers head.

"Only two more whole months then I can finally get out of the house. A couple more months then I can open up my own salon, Ma." I flashed a smile.

"That sure is right. I'm proud of you, little girl.".

I smiled showing my teeth and not being able to hide it.

"But I just don't understand why you couldn't let your father and I pay for it all. You know we'd help you without no fuss." She then placed her hands on her hip.

"I know, Ma. I can handle it, I don't want you and dad to stress." I shrugged.

"Mhm, well...Go ahead and start working." She slowly nodded her head.

"Okay." I turned on my heel and headed for my station.

I removed my bomber jacket and hung it on the hook before rolling up my sleeves. I called up my first customer of the day and quietly sighed remembering how long I was gonna be stuck in here.

The door opened, causing my head to quickly shift. I noticed one of the guys that were outside hollering at me walking towards my direction. He had a big ass smile on his face that made him look like a fool. He rubbed his hands together, getting ready to speak.

"Wassup, Ma?" He licked his lips.

"Not you, Ba." I bit down on my lip making a reference to one of Nicki Minaj's lines as he chuckled.
