Love is hard, Death means suffering, and Fate thinks it's in control.

Now I lay me down to Love, And I pray the Lord my wolf to Shove.

For if I should shy before I choose, I pray the Lord my wolf to loose.

Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on. - The Beatles

Love with all your heart,

Lie? Don't even start.

For if you lose the one you love,

You'll no longer be beloved.

I grew up in a small family of four people: My parents, my little brother, and me. Over the years, I've learned to come to terms with and accept what I am:

A clumsy, moody, stubborn, tired all the time, WEREWOLF.

We Werewolves follow a code like every other creature on the planet. It was carved, by hand by our ancestors, into an exquisite blue book held together by blood red twine. I've only ever laid eyes on the book once and may never again. The elders have all the words memorized by heart and have passed down what they know from generation to generation. However, I have slowly come to find that there are four parts of our code that specifically apply to me.

Number 1 ~ Hunters are neither friend nor foe. They survive in relation to us, as the tainted blood line. One of our own mated with a human and the first hunter was born in their offspring. To kill a hunter is to kill a part of ourselves.

Number 2 ~ Murder of a wolf by any person or creature is considered heresy and they will stand trial before the law. In this particular case, the law can refer to human counsel or the wolf counsel of the tribe of the murdered.

Number 3 ~ An alpha protects his pack from all threats and can give love equivalent to that of the bond of mates.

Number 4 ~ A wolf is mated to only one person for their entire life. You have been bonded at birth and only realize who your partner is when you lay eyes upon them. While you may love others, the love of a mate is the love of the soul.

My name is Marissa Reynolds. Oh, and by the way, destiny is crap.

A/N This is for my sister because even though I very much dislike werewolf stories because I usually don't understand them, (some are really good, so no offense) I know how much she adores them. So here is a story hopefully she will enjoy as well as the rest of you. And I'm putting a twist on the mythology of werewolves.

Also, special thanks to _ultear for the cover pictured along the side.
