"Where's Kyomi?" Korra was wandering around the campus looking for her. She couldn't find her anywhere best friend/sparing partner was nowhere to be found. She walked down the hallway and noticed a White Lotus guard.
"Hey?" She ran up to the man dressed in blue and white.
"Where's Kyomi?"
"Avatar Korra I believe everyone is eating breakfast in the hall."
"Well Kyomi and I always eat breakfast together and when I went to the hall she wasn't there. And I checked her bedroom she wasn't there."
"Should I alert the campus?" Korra thought then decided not to. She didn't think of anything suspicious she just had to keep looking.
"No it's fine I'll just keep looking." The guard bowed and went back to his post.
Korra sighed," I hate when you disappear."
~With Kyomi 4 hours ago~
Every year ever since she was able to understand a calendar Kyomi has mourned on this day. Three weeks after February 21st her birthday she has mourned in the death of her father. She woke up okay until she remembered, Korra always encourages her to forget that he died. Everyone had gotten over it it was nineteen years ago even Katara because his wisdom lives in her.
Do not mourn when I'm gone... only remember the happy memories we shared.
~Aang's last words
But Kyomi could never do that unlike her mother or her siblings. Kyomi got up from her bed and changed her clothes. Looking outside she could tell it was before six because the sun wasn't up. When she was dressed with her coat she went outside and water bent the snow to lift her to the roof. Sitting on the roof alone with her thoughts she watched the sunrise from the east.
"You know your father and I used to watch the sunrise?" Kyomi was startled then realized it was her mother, Katara.
Kyomi sighed, "What are you doing up so early?"
"Oh, I knew you would be here. . . Watching the sunrise. . . Every year... today."
Kyomi looked at her hands unable to speak, "Why do you do this sweetie?" Kyomi shifted her eyes from her hands to her white-haired eighty-four-year-old mother.
"What do you mean?" Kyomi mumbled.
"You punish yourself every year. He wouldn't want you to do that, he would want you to laugh, be happy. Not be distant, not eat, and sulk. It's not healthy."
"You don't understand mom" She grumbled.
"I do"
Kyomi growled, "NO YOU DON'T! I am FINE. Let me just BE ALONE. This is the one time of year I do this an I am fine! I am healthy! And I cope differently okay?! Just leave me alone."
"Okay dear" Katara sighed," if that's what you really want." Kyomi sat there alone for a few hours alone with her thoughts staring out at the horizon until she heard a voice.
"Kyomi" Korra yelled. Kyomi gasped removed her gloves and licked her fingers to wipe away any tear stains that might be on her face. Korra knew that Kyomi was sensitive about her father's death but she never cried around Korra and Korra never cried around her.
"Kyomi, Kyomi" she yelled again, "Kyomi."
Kyomi groaned, "Up here!" She yelled.
Korra looked up to see Kyomi on the roof. Korra frowned and water bent or snow bent herself up onto the roof.
"What is your deal?!"
Korra scolded, "I have been looking for you for like" Korra stopped to think,". . . . .HOURS!"
"Leave me alone Korra," Kyomi said not looking away from the horizon.
"What do you mean?"
Kyomi groaned, "Leave. Me. Alone. Unless you want me to make you" She said smirking at Korra.
"Ha! You? Against me?"
Kyomi rolled her eyes, "You may be the avatar but I am more skilled at bending water."
Korra scoffed, "Not true."
Kyomi took a deep breath, "How do I say this? You are not mastered in water and earth."
"Yeah I am and after I take my fire bending test I will be mastered in fire too."
"I'm just saying when you learn an element Korra all you think is Okay now I need to learn the next one. But instead, you should be thinking even though I am 'mastered' I still have a lot to learn on that element. Traditionally you learn you are the avatar when your sixteen and you learned at six. What does that tell you?"
"Pftt that I'm awesome."
"No. Think about it what if you were up against a person who has spent their lifetime perfecting their element and you a person/avatar who rushed to learn the elements were in a sparing match. Who do you think would win?"
"I-I Whatever" Korra left.Kyomi sighed looking out at the horizon, "I miss you Abba."
