"Just don't get it! Why is she being such a jerk? I've been looking for her and when I did she basically told me to go jump off a cliff!" Korra yelled raving about Kyomi brushing Naga her polar-bear dog's fur.
"My daughter can be a little complicated, but just bear with me" Korra turned to see the mother of the person she was complaining about.
"K-Katara, when I said that I didn't mean-"
"No no, it's fine. But may I tell you something about her?" Katara sat down on the bench and Korra sat beside her.
"No offense but I've known Kyomi for thirteen years; what do I not know?"
Katara grinned, "And no offense but I've known her for nineteen years and nine months."
"Wow that's precise," Korra said with a chuckle.
"Well I do love her dearly even when she says she doesn't need me anymore and that I need her. One thing about Kyomi is she reminds me of myself from my young years."
"Really?"
"Yes. Her strictness her motherly act and most of all her temper."
"You had a temper? But you seem so... mellow"
Katara chuckled, "A little. The main reason she wanted to be alone is because today is the anniversary, nine months before your birthday can you guess?
Korra thought and facepalmed when it came to her, "Oh, I forgot! But still, why is she so upset? She didn't know him."
"I asked her the same thing this morning and she got upset, more than usual. Maybe it's the time of the month" Katara chuckled.
"Maybe" Korra chuckled with the elderly woman.
"She said 'everyone copes differently' and I realized something she was right. I've seen people with pain and they handled differently; some people cry, some people use anger to hide their saddness or incecurities, and some people hide it all completly and that's never good. I'm just glad she doesn't keep her sadness in-"
"What so bad about that? Then she wouldn't be so. . .so" Korra was trying to find a word to say about Kyomi without hurting the old woman's feeling's.
"Obnoxis?" Katara assumed.
"Well. . .yeah"
"Well if people keep pain in and talk about it that can lead to depression, and sadly some people end up doing something without thinking about other people." Katara explained.
"What?" Korra asked and Katara sighed.
"Suicide"
"Oh."
Katara hummed,"Korra you and Kyomi are friends friends right?"
"The best" Korra grinned.
"Then tell her what's on your mind and she'll do the same. Best friends aren't supposed to hide anything from each other, I know you too are competitive but you too shouldn't be so competitive to where you can't share your feeling's with each other. Does that make sense?"
"I guess but-"
Katara ignores Korra and starts to talk," You know who my best friends were?"
Korra sighed,"Who?"
"The people who shared their feelings that didn't close themselves off. Like Haru, Aang, Tulane-"
Katara chuckled. "It was a little tough to get to know her but in time we were the best of friends. We knew when things were on each other's minds and we just clicked. You and Kyomi are like a unfinished puzzle, finish the puzzle Korra; it's worth it."
"Kay thanks," Korra said a little uneasy.
"If it doesn't make sense now it will later." Katara stood up straightening out her coat and walked out of the stable leaving the puzzled nineteen year old alone with her polar-bear dog and her thoughts.
