One of the dark sisters was tall and bony. She looked like so much as a handshake could snap her in two. She wore a shiny green gown which was practically a curtain on her figure. The other one was short and plump. Her face was beet red, as though she had just run a marathon. Both of them had sparks dancing across their fingers, as they readied themselves for an attack.

Their gazes slid over Will who's expression was fierce. He looked like a warrior. "Katherine Gray." The tall bony one smirked, their sparks dancing further up their hands. "I apologize that you have been forced to get reacquainted with your friends." Her eyes glanced to where the slaughtered bodies lay, but Kate refused to look over her shoulder. Instead she did her best to keep her face grim and hard.

"And you little miss Gray." The plump woman turned to Tessa. "You ought to know better than to run. We told you what would happen if you ran again. . ."

"Then do it!" Tessa shouted. "Whip me bloody. Kill me. I don't care!" There was a small amount of satisfaction as the dark sisters looked slightly alarmed at Tessa's sudden outburst, but their face returned to their dark, scary, withering grimaces.

Kate looked at her sister, and then back at the two seemingly magical women who planned to kill them. Kate admired her sisters courage, it reminded her of herself when she had been in a similar situation. "Tessa, let's perhaps not anger them right now." Kate said, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"What an unexpectedly sharp tongue you have, miss Gray." The plump sister said, fixing her beady little eyes on Tessa. "Perhaps if we cut it out of your head, you'd learn to have some manners."

Will suddenly leaped out of nowhere, moving so that he was standing in front of Tessa and Kate. "Malik!" He shouted, the blade he held in his hand abruptly started glowing, just like his witchlight.

"Get out of the way little Nephilim warrior." Said the plump woman, her eyes flaming the same colour as the sparks on her finger tips. "And take your seraph blades with you, this is not your battle."

"You're wrong about that." Will said. "I've heard some things about you, my lady. Whispers that run through Downworld like a river of black poison. I've been told you and your sister will pay handsomely for the bodies of dead humans, and don't much mind how they get that way."

Kate swallowed, trying to rid herself of the lump that had formed in her throat, the guilt that threatened to take over. "Such a fuss over a few mundanes." The bony sister chuckled, moving to stand beside her hideous sister. "We have no quarrel with you, shadowhunter, unless you choose to pick one. You have invaded our territory and broken Convenant Law in doing so. We could report you to the Clave —"

"While the Clave disapproves of trespassers, oddly they take an even darker view of beheading and skinning people. They're peculiar that way." Will said.

Kate turned to her sister, who looked to be just as shocked and confused as Kate felt, but she asked anyway. "Shadowhunters, Tessa?"

Her sister shrugged, at a loss for words, which was understandable given that there were two evil sisters trying to kill them and their saviour was a boy with a glowing sword.
"People?" The bony sister spat. "Mundanes. You care no more about them than we do." She turned to Tessa and Kate then. "Has he told you what he really is? He isn't human -"

"You're one to talk," Tessa said, her voice quivering, even as she tried to maintain the image of strength.

"And has Tessa told you what she is? Has she told you about her talent? What she can do?" The Plump one raised her eyebrow in an aggressive manor. "How about Katherine. Has she told you why she suddenly appeared in our home, or what's writhing inside her small body of —"

"Enough!" Will shouted, swinging his glowing sword in his hands.

"You have no idea what these two are capable of, shadowhunter." The bony witch stepped forward again, pushing them towards the pile of dead bodies. "The Magister is more dangerous than you could ever imagine and has waited for these two for a long time —"

Her rant stopped, suddenly swallowed up, as an eruption of sound floods Kate's ears. She didn't wait to find out what was happening, as she ducked and ran behind an alter of hair and skin. Her sister was on the ground, one hand covering her head as the wall behind her exploded.
A small scream could be heard as a shower of debris rained down from the inside.

Kate peered over the alter, and through the strands of hair smothered in dirt and blood, stood two figures figures slowly emerging through the wreck.
