As I walked down the hall to get to my locker, I noticed a girl that I’d never seen before a few rows down. She seemed like she was having trouble opening her locker so I’m guessing she was new. As soon as I opened my locker she walked up to me awkwardly.

“Um, excuse me. Can you help me open up my locker please?” She said with a kind smile. I sighed and turned to look at her, “Yeah, sure. Whatever.” I followed her to her locker and she gave me her locker combination. I opened it up and turned back to her, “Here you go.”

“Thanks a lot. My name is Rose Chambers, what’s yours?” Wait one second; did she just say her last name is Chambers? She has the same last name as Ethan. Oh God, please don’t tell me that they’re related. “The name’s Jade West; you related to Ethan Chambers?”

“Yes I am; he’s my brother. Why?” She asked with a polite smile. Ugh, I just hope she’s not annoying and conceited like him. She didn’t exactly give off that kind of aura which was a relief to me. “Your brother is a conceited jerk,” I stated.

“It’s only his first day here and already he’s flirting with me! I told him to leave me alone and that I’m not looking for a boyfriend but he wouldn’t listen. He’s so freaking annoying!” She laughed, “Well he definitely won’t be stopping anytime soon. Once he likes a girl, he won’t stop flirting with her until she likes him back. It took him two months to make the last girl he liked like him back.”

I raised an eyebrow, “Oh, so I’m not the first girl he’s doing this to?” She shook her head, “Nope, you’re the second. You’re very pretty, by the way.” “Thanks. Listen, I reeaallly don’t want to go out with your brother so can you please tell him to back off? He’s not my type, and like I said I’m not looking for a boyfriend. There are plenty of other girls in this school so tell him to find somebody else.”

“Alright then, I’ll try but I doubt he’ll listen to me.” “Thanks. See you ‘round.” I said and walked back to my locker. I took my books out quickly and walked to class. Shit. I’m going to be late at this rate. The class was almost full by the time I got there.

I took my seat in the back, put my headphones in my ears, and started listening to a song on my IPod. Two minutes later, Ethan walked into the class. I groaned silently. He just had to have this class too. I quickly put my head down hoping he wouldn’t see me.

He noticed that the seat to the right of me was empty and started walking towards it. No! Go away! I didn’t want him sitting next to me so I put my feet up on the chair, “This seat’s taken.” I glared at him and pulled my headphones out of my ears.

Instead of walking away like any normal guy, he just smirked, “Oh really, by who, your feet?” He mused. I glared at him even harder, “Who it’s taken by is none of your business.” Stupid jerk making annoying comments.

He walked up to one of the students in the class, “Is that seat taken?” He pointed to the seat occupied by my feet. “Nope,” The student said and turned away. He walked back up to me, “So are you ready to move your feet now?”

“No,” I said smirking. Instead of saying anything, he just picked up my feet, moved them to the floor and sat down on the chair. “Asshole…” I grumbled and put my headphones back in my ear. “Hey, what song are you listening to?” I heard Ethan say a few seconds later.

“Why do you want to know?” “I want to see if you have good taste in music, that’s all.”  I rolled my eyes, “I’m listening to Build God Then We’ll Talk by Panic at the Disco.” He smiled at me, “That’s my favorite song.” I widened my eyes in shock, “Really?”

He nodded his head, “My three favorite bands are Panic at the Disco, Paramore, and Breaking Benjamin.” I smiled, “Those are my favorite three bands too.” He smiled wide, “I guess you do have good taste in music after all.” “Of course I do,” I said matter-of-factly.

“By the way Jade, you look beautiful when you smile. You should do it more often.” I chuckled, “I’m sorry but that won’t be happening anytime soon though I do appreciate the compliment.” “I accpet your challenge…” I heard him say right before the teacher came in.

Forty-five minutes later…

I was literally cracking up as I left the class. Ethan had made jokes all period about the teacher’s ass as an attempt to get me to smile. When he’d said that it’d drooped so much he was sure it was going to reach the floor by the end of the period, I just couldn’t hold in my laughter any more.

The thing is he’d said it so seriously too, like he actually believed it was going to happen.

“Ms. West!” The teacher had called in a scolding voice when she saw me.

“Care to share what’s so funny with the rest of the class?” She shouted at me angrily.

“Damn, the way she looks with that face makes it seem like those wrinkles are going to envelop her face whole any second now.” Ethan whispered.

I swear it took everything it had in me not to start laughing right there again.

“No Ms. Bones” I replied.

Stupid, stupid Ethan!

The wrinkles creased deeper into her face as she turned back around to face the chalkboard and muttered something about teenagers.

I was now walking toward the cafeteria, when something clicked in my mind and I turned around. Ethan was still following me.

“Why are you still here?”

“Because I don’t know the way to the cafeteria.”

“Go find someone else to show you the way.”

“I don’t have anyone else to show me the way.”

I groaned and just went along with him. He’d better memorize the way this time, because I’m sure as hell not going to show him again tomorrow.

The way there was quite silent, we didn’t make any sort of conversation, but he did stare my way a couple times as if he were going to say something, but all that courage to do so slipped away at the last minute every time.

I don’t get it. Why can’t he just leave me alone already?
