"We need to talk." I practically growled as the words left Percy's mouth. I had learned his name only recently after asking around the camp. Apparently he was a big deal.
"About what? Have you changed your mind about helping me?" I stopped fiddling with the corner of the sheet I was putting on the mattress that had become mine.
"No." Percy's glare didn't lighten up.
"Shame." I went back to focusing on the sheet. "I guess I owe Pax five bucks."
"I assume you're still going to get him?" Percy leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.
I looked up at him. "And why would you assume that?"
"Because it's what I would do."
"And who says that I'm going to do what you would do?"
"Aidin talks a lot."
I groaned and threw myself on to the bed I had been making. "And you're here to stop me?"
Percy hesitated before he answered. "No. I'm here to make sure you don't die doing it."
I lifted my head to look at him. "And how do you propose to do that?"
Percy sighed as he pushed off from the wall. He walked forward as he pulled something from his pocket. "Just don't lose them. Okay?"
Curious, I pushed myself off the bed to examine what Percy was offering. An onyx black watch onset with white opal stones around the face lay in his hand. Next to it, a red rubber band.
"You're kidding, right?" I laughed as I picked the watch up by the band. "At least Khione won't be able to stop me from putting my hair back. Oh. And don't forget my poor time management skills." I scoffed as I threw myself back on the bed, uninterested.
Percy rolled his eyes. "Just put them on." I groaned as I dragged myself from the bed once again. Not breaking eye contact, I slipped the rubber band on my right wrist and fasten the watch to my left.
"There. Happy?" I moved back toward the bed. "Hey!" Percy grabbed my wrist. Before I could move to throw him off, or better yet throw him through the wall, he pushed the small dial on the side of the watch. He stepped back as the watch started to unfold itself. I jumped back, forgetting the watch was attached to me. I grasped the band of the watch, ready to take it off, but Percy stopped me.
"Just look, Jayde." Percy rolled his eyes as he leaned against the wall.
I stopped fiddling with the watch band to see that it wasn't a watch anymore. A round black shield now hung on my wrist. The symbol of Olympus was faded in the middle and the opal stones framed it.
"Where did you..." I glanced at Percy but didn't finish. I shook my head, then remembered that I had another item on my wrist.
"And this?" I left my right wrist, which the red rubber band was still on.
"Snap it."
"I'm sorry?"
"Snap. It."
"You just want to watch me snap myself with a rubber band. What are you, ten?"
Percy let out an exasperated sighed. "Do you want me to do it?"
I glared at him again as I snapped the rubber band on my wrist. A blood red sword grew from it, form to fit in my hand.
"See? Now you won't die. Hopefully." Percy pushed himself off the wall and turned to leave.
"Hey Percy?"
"Yeah?"
"It's Jay."
