Alexa's POV

A couple weeks later, my parents are still stone cold to each other. I found out that my dad has been cheating on mom for quite some time now, and that really made me mad.

He hasn't said anything kind to my mom, in fact he barely talks to her, like he doesn't care. Even a simple apology he can't manage to make.

I know my mom doesn't like bringing up touchy subjects or problems, it's usually my dad who talks it out. And in this situation, it really should be him who says something. But he hasn't said a single word about it, pretending like he doesn't know or care.

The house feels so empty, yet the atmosphere is at its tensest state.

It's a Saturday afternoon, and during these days it's usually a good and chill time for me to relax, but like i said, the air is so tense and filled with worry it's hard to clear my mind to think.

"Hi honey." My mom knocked on my door and peeked from the side.

I sat up and looked at her, taken aback by her looks. She smiled so sweetly, and her grin almost fooled me into thinking she was actually happy. What gave it way was her red eyes, worn out of crying so much, and the bags underneath them that told me she hasn't slept one bit.

"Hi mom."

She walked in, sitting beside me on my bed.

"Look sweetie, I'm sorry that you have to be involved in this mess, I didn't mean for this to happen." She held my hand so gently, showing me genuine care and guilt.

"Mom, don't be. I'm always here to help when there's something wrong."

I looked in her eyes, and i was confused to see an unrecognizable emotion flicker in them, almost like a mix of worry and anger in one, though I wasn't sure. She looked away when she saw me staring. Taking a deep breath, she faced me.

She looked serious as she gripped my hands tighter, "Listen, Alexa, just care for yourself and stay out of this mess."

I was confused by her sudden change of expression, but I believed it was her stress. I can't imagine trying to look happy in front of your daughter when you've been through so much the past couple of weeks.

I nodded slowly, and she stood up from my bed. She smiled. As she was about to close the door, she paused and looked at me. For some reason, I felt that whatever she was about to say would make me worry.

"The Dolans invited us for dinner tonight, Lisa's happy that we're back, and she was glad to invite us for dinner. You know your aunt Lisa.." I froze, my instant thought being about Ethan.

She must have noticed my worried expression when she said, "It would be fun to catch up with them sweetie, don't be nervous. There's probably a little issue with your friends at the moment, but this might be a great opportunity to explain to them right?" I just smiled.

Oh how clueless you are mom.

She stood up and gave me a sweet grin. "Be ready in twenty, okay?"

I nodded and she shut the door and left, leaving me stiff in my place.

Yay. Here we go again.

It might seem dramatic that I'm reacting this way whenever Ethan is brought up, and I know that. Our night together was a big mistake, and every time I hear his name or even see him everything just comes back to my head.
