Finally, the day that I was allowed to go home came.
I wasn’t fully healed, I still get tired of long walks, not to mention my back pain isn’t giving any signs of going away anytime soon either.
But all was good.
I was going home, starting school on Monday with Nick, just on time too as it was time that training for baseball season would start.
All was good.
But I can’t itch off the feeling that it wasn’t going to last. Not with the dreams and those men in suits.
Ever since their supposed visit, dad has been quiet and often times spacing out. And though it was the first and last time that I’ve seen them, they gave me a bad feeling.
“I can’t wait for Monday.” Nick says as he packed up our school things, “I’m pretty sure the old gang would love to see you.”
I chuckled, “They never liked me before Nick, especially Keith.”
“You kicked him in the balls, who would like you after that?” he teased.
“C’mon, it isn’t like he didn’t deserve it.”
“Well, a little warning would have been nice.”
I gave him a that’s- stupid- look, “I’m not gonna warn every pervert that I come across to that I’m gonna kick them on the groin or break a bone or two.” I said making him laugh. “It’s like, hey, I’m really sorry for this but I don’t like being referred to a piece of meat so if you can just open your legs a little wider I’d like to kick your jewels.”
He laughed and zipped his bag closed.
“Well, why don’t you just leave the perverts to me and I’ll handle the ass kicking for you, how does that sound?” he asked.
I grinned, “Dad would like that, but what am I gonna do with my kick ass black belt?”
He laughed and ruffled my hair. “Get some rest, jailbird, it would be a long ride home.”
“But I’m too excited to sleep.” I said looking up at the clock and realizing it was about the time that I was to take my afternoon nap.
“Just amused me, babe, please?” he gave me a look, the one that he probably mastered with Puss in Boots.
I grinned and rolled my eyes, “Ok, ok…”
“Thank you.” he says as he kissed me on the forehead and tucked me in. “We’ll wake you up before we leave.”
I nodded as I snuggled underneath the blankets.
But as if I just closed my eyes, I felt the ground shake waking me up, everything was in chaos.
It was already dark outside and I was looking around the room, the only light came from the short foyer that leads to the door.
I can hear screaming and shouting outside my room, doors slamming and a loud sound that was new to me.
“What do you mean leave?” I hear Nick ask from the said foyer.
“You have to take her away.” I hear my dad say, “Go to my house and take everything you can from my study, look for the suitcase in my room and take it with you. Go far away.”
“What?!”
“Just do it!” he shouted, “You said you care for my daughter, you said you would never leave her-“
“I won’t but I need to know what’s going on-“
“You will, once you get away.” he said firmly, “All you need to know now is you two aren’t safe here. You need to leave or they’ll take her.”
