Crisis

I had just tried explaining to Ava that just because Kelly and I had a night of weakness did not mean anything about the status of our relationship, I didn't want her to get her hopes that she was going to have a family when I can't guarantee I'm going to want to stay in Chicago. I told her to think about moving to New York.

Then I got a call that my mother was in the hospital after having a grand mal seizure. I had to take Ava to the hospital because she wanted to be with her grandma, they told me it was a combination of a high fever and the stress of moving to the nursing home and dealing with my father's condition.

I left Ava at the hospital to check on my father because he only remembered my mother and me, he sometimes called Ava by my name because we look so much alike. I would hate for him to be alone right now, he had been so understanding and accepting when he found out I was pregnant. In fact he was the first to insist that I was keeping the baby no matter what, I knew that he couldn't bear the thought of something happening to his first grandchild.

He was sitting in a wheelchair in their shared room.

"Oh Tahlia, where's your mom?" he asked.

"No one told you" I said.

"No they just told me you were coming" he said putting his hand on mine.

"Dad, she's in the hospital right now. She had a grand mal seizure" I said worried how he was going to take it.

"Is she going to be ok?" he asked.

"I don't know yet, they're doing tests on her right now" I said.

"I was in my shower, when I the nurse brought me back she was gone" he said. "It worried me, but they assured me she was fine" he said.

"I'm sure she'll be fine" I said.

"You go, be with your mother. I'll be fine, I have all these nurses around me" he said.

"I'll be back when I know more" I said kissing him on the forehead.

I knew it hurt Ava that he didn't remember her sometimes and I never wanted to witness it, I'd like to remember him the way he was when I was a younger. My heart dropped when I went to the hospital seeing my mother covered in a lot of electrodes getting her head tested.

I didn't think Ava should see her like that, so I took her to her friends house and found myself at Kelly's door. I had saved him the trouble of telling his mother about Ava, she had demanded to see her and soon. I promised to make it happen after I talked to Kelly.

"Everything ok?" Kelly asked as soon as he opened the door.

"No, my mother had a grand mal seizure and my father didn't know because the nursing home that I'm paying five thousand a month so they could be together, didn't bother to tell him. My mother's being tested right now, I couldn't stand seeing her like that and I didn't want Ava seeing her like that. I dropped her off at her friends house and found myself here, I talked to your mother about Ava by the way" I said sitting on his couch.

"And she wants to see her soon" he said.

"Yes, sometime soon" I said.

"Well thanks for getting that out of the way for me, I wouldn't even know how to begin" he said.

"So your lady, what's happening with her?" I asked.

"It's over with her, we're just too different. I don't like how she has to pull things from me, you at least know me and I'll never have the same thing I have with you, with her" he said.
