Nightfall overhead and the call of battle. Blood was pooling in the air, the aroma attracting Raphael's senses, himself licking his lower lip as he attempted to scope out the source as the three approached their destination, orders from the Clave itself fueling them here just to fulfill their alliance and show loyalty to Shadowhunters, of course being blackmailed in siding with the scumbags.
Would he of done this out of morals? Pfft... Not a chance. Raphael was never one to do things out of good deed, but more or so out of blood oaths. After all, the whole reason why he was still with Magnus in the beginning was due to making a promise on his mother's doorstep over him, and after her death, that was the most sacred promise he had ever made. Now he stuck around due to enjoying the male to his fullest and even being a bit of an adoptive son to him, the oath just bonding them further.
"How much longer?" Simon. Of course Raphael had to drag him along. He wasn't walking along with some fleabag all alone named Baxter - one of Luke's literal dogs - as they approached a battlefield, no trust at all in the other. So, mostly for his own comfort he brung beautiful Simon along, the flimsy fledgling who was quite visually appealing, even though he'd never admit it.
"Shut up Daylighter," Raphael rasped, not answering due to personally not knowing himself, but just playing as if Simon was being annoying. Of course he went silent after that, and he heard Baxter grunt from Simon's side, Raphael unsure on whether that was of distaste or gratitude.
The three? They weren't overly bad to get along. ... Okay, that was a lie. Raphael had literally spit in Baxter's face after the male threatened to rip his fangs out, and Simon had to separate the two before Raphael went to slit open his throat, Luke even rushed to assign the group some other werewolf to work with, but Raphael declined, deciding to keep the mutt afterall. Eh.. It wasn't like it mattered, though. Any person that he was paired with guaranteed would've gotten sass, Raphael having a strong hatred for any of the Moon's Children, even the smell of them making him coil and wish for some sort of silver glitter to just blow in their face.
Why?
It was a rivalry going on ever since the birth of both species. Their masters had a war ongoing, and upon birthing the defects of humanity, of course it passed on. Hell, some even believed that was purposely played, their genetic code altered and mind warped in a way to view the other as a threat or prey, their natural animalistic nature forcing them to view the other as a target. But, Raphael hardly believed in that crap, even though it was probably true. After all, how could he hate someone else for who they were with such a passion?
"S-sorry," Simon apologized, awkwardly scratching on his arm as he walked between the two, himself already knowing Raphael and Baxter shouldn't be anywhere close to one another. He mostly did it to protect Raphael - even though the other male didn't need it - due to Baxter being a whopping 6'5", 250 lbs pound male. Raphael? He was just shy of 5'10" and 170 lbs, but god did that guy ever have a temper on him. Vicious too... He could still recall feeling that knife at his throat when he was a hostage back at the Dumort, the gasping breaths and tensing probably a bad move back then.
"You should be," Baxter began, his voice gruff and rather scratchy, the male sporting a full on beard. He even opened his mouth to rib out Simon some more when Raphael spoke up, his own voice tight and tense,
"Don't speak to him like that," Raphael hissed, his fangs unsheathing as he glared past Simon, locking eyes and speaking in a slow tone, his usual cold and sly voice filling the air. Upon hearing Raphael speak up Baxter turned, his jaw setting and cheek muscle lightly twitching as he obviously tried to hold back. The hatred between the two? Nearly unbearable. Sure, they only met earlier this day, but did Raphael care? Not at all. All that he did care about was getting this mission done and shutting Baxter up as much as possible in the process.
