Spencer's pov
It was a sunny day, warmer than usual with the streets packed with children of age around 10. A magic show was hosted today just one street across the Brew, at the entrance of the grassy lanes of what we, town folks call 'park'. I am supposed to meet up with Toby for coffee today at 3, he said he wanted to talk. Here early and dying for some caffeine, I bought myself a large size black coffee with two sugars and sat down by the window. While slowing sipping the burning hot content I longingly craved everyday, I glanced outside, observing the excited faces of each and every child outside. Their excitement glimmered under the afternoon sunshine and mine coiled inside me, about to burst, but not just yet.
I waited patiently. Not long after I ordered my second drink, Toby walked in. An immediate smile appeared on my face as I rush and gave him a quick welcoming hug. He hugged me back tightly. It was a great sensation, feeling the warmth of his body and feeling safe. We broke apart just after several seconds and Toby went to order a drink while I walk back to our table with jelly liked legs and a completely hypnotised mind. I smiled to myself unintentionally, unaware of my surroundings. I was deep in thought until I hear a loud bang on the table. I jumped, startled by the sudden noise, then I realised it was just Toby placing his cup of hot latte on the table. Sighing with relief, I snapped back into reality.
"So, did you get your job as a full time carpenter?" I tried to start a decent conversation.
"Believe it or not, I actually did, but I will have to complete a 3 month course in Philly starting from next Tuesday." He replied and my heart sank however I briefly congratulated him. "This is actually what I wanted to talk to you about." He continues and starts explaining his tasks. My stomach fluttered to the news that he will be taking the weekends off.
"Spence, what are you planning on doing, apart from going to law school," he asked after a moment of silence.
"I actually got into UPenn so that 's in Philly too. But I haven't decided whether to accept the offer, since it is 3 years even if you are in the accelerated program of getting the MBA from Wharton and JD from Penn Law." I explained.
"Oh man Spence, how could you deny it, it was your dream! MBA and JD, just wow, congratulations. I always knew it was in you!"Toby put his arm around my shoulders and kissed me on my forehead. I can't deny that the feeling lingered with me all day.
"Thanks Toby, but it's giving up another 3 years of life in college, I can always go back to being a lobbyist or maybe politician," I shrugged.
"I can always imagine you being the brightest politician of the states," Toby grinned. I laughed and looked into his azure eyes, instantly charmed by it. I think I'm falling for Toby again. But I don't think he feels the same way. I sighed. He broke the silence, telling me that he has to head off soon. I told him the same.
After finishing our beverages, we got up to leave. Toby said that he would walk me home, and I think it is very nice of him. We strolled down our lane peacefully and in silence, not saying a word to each other. It was however a good type of silence, it felt right. After a few minutes walk, we arrived at my porch. I gave Toby a big hug and a peck on his cheeks, telling him to meet up before he leaves for Philly. He nodded while his head rested on my shoulders, it was a funny feeling. I felt his hand cup my chin timidly as we broke apart. "Take care," he said under his breath. I gave him a weak smile of gratitude and we parted.
In the corner of my eyes, I saw my mum looking out of the window smiling. I waved and hurried inside...
