chapter 17: truth or dare
It's been one week and I've finally convinced Zoey to come over while Nate is in the house, but she claims while we're here that she doesn't want to leave "the comfort of my room" but we both know who she's avoiding. I oblige to her orders because we're finally making progress. We're in my room watching White Chicks which happens to be one of my favorite movies. I figured that since it always helps me get out of a bad mood, it should help her. Turns out I was right, it really started to work. As we're in the middle of laughing at one of the jokes, Nate opens the door and walks in.
"Andi, I'm just gonna borrow an extension cord." He states right before looking at Zoey. "Nevermind. I'll come back later." He mutters closing the door and I look at Zoey who resumes the movie nonchalantly. I pause it again, waiting for something, anything. Nonetheless, no response was shown.
"I really gotta remember to start locking my door." I joke, but she just sighs. "No progress, huh?" I ask and she shakes her head.
"None. I don't know how long he's gonna keep this up. It's been over a week. We've never fought this long before. We've hardly fought at all and look at us now."
"Well you guys are on a break," I emphasize the word "are" which leads Zoey to glare at me. "Sorry."
"I'm not worried. He'll come crawling back to me like he always does. No biggie." There's a hint of doubt in her eyes. We both know that she misses him like crazy. Zoey doesn't admit these things though. She likes to stay in denial for as long as she possibly can. I honestly think that she should own up to this so they can just move past this quicker. I mean, she did keep the pregnancy test from him. I don't want to take sides though.
"I don't know, Zo. He seemed pretty solid." She rolls her eyes and continues the movie. This time I don't pause it and just continue watching it. I'll let her have her way.
As I'm walking by Grayson's room, I notice his door is open a bit. I'm about to walk past him when when I hear him throw something and yell "Dammit, Carmen." I knock on his door and go in when he mutters "It's open." I walk in and take site of the situation. Grayson's stuff is thrown all around the room and he's sitting on his bed fidgeting with his phone in his hands. I lean against the door frame and ask.
"You good?" He lays down on his back putting his phone on his stomach and puts his hands on his face.
"Yeah. Fine. What do you want?" He seems to put an emphasis on each word before rubbing his temples. I can tell he's agitated, but I still continue.
"Just came to check in on you. Everything alright with Carmen?" He shakes his head.
"I screwed up, big time." He sits up staring at his phone.
"What did you do?" I ask cautiously. He takes a deep breath and begins explaining.
"Carmen caught me with one of the cheerleaders." He starts. "I wasn't even the one who started it, but of course Carmen doesn't believe me. I didn't even want to be with her. The girl was all over me. She kept saying she wants me even though I told her I wasn't interested. Carmen said she's not mad because we never made it official, but I know she's hurt." I raise my eyebrows. I don't even know how to respond. I feel bad for both of them. What is going on with all of these couples having issues lately?
"Wow. Well I hope you guys sort everything out." I look at the ground. I honestly don't know what advice to give to him. Between the two of us, I definitely have the least relationship experience. "I'll make sure to talk to Carmen and see how she's really feeling." I promise and he nods. "I'll even try to put in a good word for you." I know how much Grayson likes Carmen and I wouldn't want him to have his first serious relationship ruined by someone like Dominique.
