When you finally woke up again, you were confused for a moment, unsure of where you were. You jumped for a second when you saw a gigantic face looming over you, then remembered what was going on. You sat up to find yourself in the cupped hands of Blue Diamond, back at her regular size.

"Hello (Y/N)."

"Hi Blue," you replied softly but cheerfully. "I know I just woke up, but I've been meaning to ask. Considering the understanding we've developed, where are we going now?"

"Ah. Yes. This is a bit awkward... I already told the gems operating the human zoo to prepare to receive a new human. It may cause suspicion and create undesirable questions if you aren't delivered, so I will still be taking you there, but I'll arrange to have you discreetly removed as soon as I can. I hope you can trust that I will keep my word."

"I do. Besides, if you were going to put me in there and leave me there, you could just do it, and I wouldn't be able to stop you. You wouldn't have any need to lie. I trust you."

"You needn't worry about any such thing. I know you haven't even been here a day, but, well, I know this sounds silly, I think I'll feel a bit lost without you here," she said meekly, running a finger down your back as though stroking a small animal. You tilted your head back and shut your eyes as she did this. You smiled up at her, perfectly calm and secure in her hands.

"My Diamond? I know I said I'd stay with you until this was all over and figured out, but I'm not in a rush to get home if you'd like me to stay longer than that. The fact is, I want to be here with you for as long as I can."

Blue Diamond gave a small gasp of shock, then held you to her cheek with a smile and joyful tears in her eyes.

"(Y/N), you're a continually surprising creature! You are so very kind, although I've given you little cause to be. I have admitted, I am in no great rush to part temporarily, let alone permanently. But I cannot take you from your life, and yes, I acknowledge the irony that that is precisely what I originally intended. It would feel wrong to keep you for all your life, while keeping you for so very little of mine."

"It may not sound very good, but I think I'd be pretty happy. Let's just see what happens."

"Yes," she said smiling, "I suppose that's all we can do."

"My Diamond, we will be arriving shortly," Blue Pearl declared, having entered the room soundlessly.

"Thank you Pearl. I'll be right there." She turned to you. "Don't worry. The next few hours may be frightening, but you shall be in absolutely no danger."

"The amethyst guards have been known to intimidate new humans for their amusement," Pearl added. "You need not take them seriously. They are harmless."

"Although the primary supervisor, Holly Blue Agate, can be a bit of a... how to put this..." Blue trailed off, searching for a term which was neither too understated nor too vulgar.

"My Diamond, might I suggest 'a walking headache?'" Pearl offered. You and Blue burst into laughter.

"An excellent description, Pearl!"

"I'll keep that in mind," you said, catching your breath. "Oh, and My Diamond. While I'm in there, there's one thing important. I think you should try to meet up with the other Diamonds. My dream told me that 'the answer is where they all meet.'"

"I'll see what I can arrange, but White..." She shuddered. "That could be an issue. But as I said, I'll see what I can do. Now if you'll excuse me for a few minutes, I'll just call ahead and make the arrangements." She carefully set you down and knelt holding your hand. "I will come back for you. I promise."

You politely kissed her hand.

"You'd better be," you said jokingly. "I'll be waiting for you."

She stood up slowly, which forced you to reluctantly release her hand. She turned and gave you a reassuring smile before she stepped out of the room.

"Hey Pearl?" you asked once Blue Diamond was gone.

"Y-yes?"

"I just wanted to ask - do you feel threatened by me being around?"

"What I feel isn't important. You needn't concern yourself."

"No, I'm serious. I feel like I'm becoming pretty close to Our Diamond, and I worry you might feel like I'm usurping your place at her side. I just want you to know I won't do anything to push you away. I like to think I'm forming a strong bond with her, but you've been with her through times good and bad for millennia, and I wouldn't dream of interfering with that."

"Your consideration is unnecessary," she said, blushing shyly, "but not unappreciated. Thank you."

You spread your arms to offer her a hug, which she accepted.

"Unrelated, but I've been having a thought. Is there a way I could send a message back home?"

"It should be simple enough to boost your mobile device's signal. I'll just patch it through our system," she explained with a smile. She walked you through the process. When it was all set up, you took your mobile phone out of your pocket and called your home phone, leaving a message on your answering machine so the police would find it when they inevitably searched your home for evidence regarding your disappearance.

A few minutes later, you felt a slight bump as the ship docked.

"Well, here we are," Blue Diamond said, reentering the room, looking sad once again. "This is where we part ways." She managed to force a weak smile. "But just for now."

You failed to fight back tears.

"I'm going to miss you, Blue. Please, just promise me you'll be careful. I don't know what these things want, but I don't want anything to happen to you. Just come back safely, okay?"

She lifted you up, and you nuzzled your face into hers. She seemed truly reluctant to let go, but finally conjured up the willpower to put you down.

"Perhaps I'll go in with you. Just to see you off."

You entered the facility with Blue Diamond holding your hand, then watched as her ship undocked and disappeared from sight. You watched through the window as she left, your hand on the glass and tears in your eyes.

"I love you..." you whispered, bowing your head and shutting your eyes.

"Oh for goodness' sake, this was supposed to be delivered ten minutes ago! Must I do everything myself? I swear I'll have those amethysts shattered if I ever get ahold of them!"

"Holly Blue Agate, I presume?" you said, unable to disguise mild irritation in your voice as you turned around. The large gem wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"Uggh, just listen to that awful barking it makes! HU-MAN!" she declared, speaking excessively loudly and slowly. "IF YOU CAN UN-DER-STAND WHAT I AM SAY-ING, FOL-LOW ME."

You leaned your head slowly towards her, pausing for a moment before replying in similarly exaggerated fashion.

"O-KAY."
