... Nothing happened.
“Uh… that's your cue to die, buddy,” Black prompted uncomfortably. The spear through your chest dissipated, leaving only the wound behind.
“No. Not now. At least not yet. You've become everything. I'm the only one left standing here. I can only figure that's because you don't have power over me for whatever reason. Or maybe I'm wrong? Either way, I'm the only one left, the only one who can stop you, and the only one who can save them. That's exactly what I'm going to do, and I'll die when I'm good and ready. That's the thing about humans, we're a persistent lot.”
In actuality you weren’t feeling too great with your punctured lung and massive blood loss from your pierced heart, but you weren’t about to admit that to Black Diamond. You faltered and fell to your knees for a moment, but soon managed to climb to your feet. Your legs were shaking, but you were able to keep your head up.
“Ah, so that’s how we’re gonna play it. Okay. I can work with this. I can be your nightmare… Dreamer.”
A chill ran down your back. Your vision shook and blurred, and for a second you weren’t standing in an empty void facing down a fusion of every gem on Homeworld. You were on an alien world far away, standing beside a large jasper with a gem for a nose… and kneeling in a barn with a small green gem next to some sort of machine… and wandering a snowy forest with a purple reptilian girl… and sitting on a couch laughing with a stout purple gem… and flying through space with an angelic blue gem… and standing at the controls of some sort of spaceship, completely alone. You heard the same eerie singing again as your vision refocused.
“What did you just call me?” you asked weakly. Black laughed softly.
“Aww, you don't even know your own name? Well, sorry for the spoiler. Heh, don't worry. I'll wipe that from your memory.” She paused. “By killing you. Sorry if I wasn't clear.”
“No no, it's cool, I knew what you meant. Can we not start doing a bit here? I am losing quite a bit of blood here.”
“Oh, yes, of course. Where were we… oh yeah.” She spun back to the face with Pearl's eyes. You struggled to still your breathing, which wasn't easy when one lung had a hole through it, and braced yourself for another spear assault, but there was only silence. “... It's your turn.”
“Oh, thank you!” you smiled. She nodded politely. “So umm, Pearl! You were made to be a servant! No feelings or identity of your own, caring about nothing but serving your Diamond. You just smile, nod, and look nice. But that’s not you, is it? The Pearl I’ve come to know has her own feelings, her own fears, her own likes and dislikes. You’re an aspiring artist and a caring friend, with a surprising amount of wit now and then. Of course, that doesn’t mean you’re a rebel or something, just that whatever happens you’ve always held onto a sense of who you are. You’re Blue Pearl. You’re my friend and I’m yours.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. This isn’t who I am!”
“Well well…” Black Diamond said as she turned back to her main face, now with only two eyes illuminated. “Five out of six. You almost got the complete set! If only you had more time left to live. What a shame! What do you say? Do you have one more round in you, double or nothing, Final Jeopardy, go for broke?” You nodded, although your strength was fading fast. “Oh, and did I mention we’re cranking the difficulty up to the max here?” She spun to the face with Blue Diamond’s eyes. “Sorry to rain on your parade!”
There came a whistling sound, like the cartoon sound effect of something falling a long way. You looked up and managed to fall to the side just as a gigantic teardrop fell right where you had been standing. But it wasn’t the only one. Giant tears were falling all around like a heavy rainstorm. You began to shed a few of your own. You couldn’t do it. You were too badly weakened. One of the teardrops struck you, knocking you to the ground. Another hit you while you were down, feeling like a forceful punch delivered to your entire body.
