It had been so long since Gilbert had seen his younger brother. He had nearly lost his mind in that damned house, blue eyes dull and angry most of the time. The Russian that held him captive was like the devil and the Prussian hated him. Oh, the hatred he felt burned deep within his belly and fired his instincts to become animalistic and primitive. He hated him for everything that had been done. He was stripped of his dignity time and time again as he taunted him and he had always fired back in anguish. Only to be shot down by a hand to his cheek and a stinging pain that accompanied a red mark and eventually a bruise. Most of all, he hated him for separating him from his brother.
The man put his hand upon the wall, blue eyes tired and blank.
"Vest... If you're zhere... I miss you... Zhis is hell.. I don't vant to do zhis anymore.... He's tearing me apart! I vant to come home..." he said, snow beginning to fall around him. His expression was that of a broken man as he fell to his knees and pressed his forehead against the cold stone.
"I hate it here.. I vant to come home und see you und sleep in my own bed.... I don't vant to live here..." he whispered, lips quivering. No tears. He would be damned if he cried even once in this hell. This snowy hell with the demon that was in the house. Ivan was probably watching him, planning to punish him again for being outside. He no longer cared what happened, numbing his limbs as the Russian would hit him. He had long forgotten the feeling of physical pain and no longer respond. Oh god, how much he wanted to throw his arms around Ludwig and tell him that everything would be alright like he did when he was a child. The pain of being without him made up for the lack of physical responses. He had become feral and silent, baring his teeth in anger towards the Russian when he would grab his hair. He longed so badly to plunge a bullet into his brain and find a way over the wall.
Bruises covered his arms and legs, showing where he had disobeyed Ivan and had received punishment. The screams that left him were false, giving the impression that he felt pain. He closed his eyes and shivered, leaning against the wall limply.
"Do you still think of me, Vest?"
The thought of being forgotten made him choke, fear racing through his veins momentarily. The Prussian was terrified that his brother forgot him. His promise was broken. He promised that he would always be by his side and he had been torn away like a rag doll. Tears came to his eyes and fell down his cheeks, his body betraying the silent warning to not show weakness. He was broken and so badly emotionally wounded it would take months, years to feel normal again. Hatred and anger felt like the only emotion he could feel.
He needed to feel warmth. Not the hollow feeling of Ivan hugging him when he was in a good mood, which was rare for him. He wanted to feel his brother's soft lips and his embrace. He wanted to be held by the older man and chat and talk like they had known each other forever. They essentially did know each other forever. Gilbert had raised Ludwig and one day, a mishap turned into soft caresses and kisses, leading to the two men experimenting with relationships. They began to bond and in time, Prussia loved him more than a brother. They were closer than brothers and shared every night in the same bed, merely tangled together like lovers. They were lovers. Gilbert loved the man more than he thought he was capable of. He would lace kisses across his skin in the mornings and they would share tender moments together while they were alone before dawn, when they had to get up and go to work. They would always work until it was close to sunset and share dinner before sitting together on the couch. Gilbert would lean against Ludwig and the two would watch television before going to bed and starting the cycle over again.
He coughed harshly into his hand and shuddered, putting his hand on the wall. Was this going to be it? Was he going to live there for the rest of his country's existence until Ivan found him useless and terminated him? He choked back a cry and shuddered again, pressing his cheek to the stone.
"Vest... Please... Please hurry.. Bring me home." he whispered.
"You are not supposed to be out here." a voice behind him growled. Ivan. Wonderful. He turned and looked over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed and his lips brought into a snarl.
"I don't care." he snapped.
"Excuse me?" he said, his violet eyes cold.
"I. Don't. Care." he repeated, venom dropping from his voice.
More bruises. Blood dripped from his lips and he let it fall into the snow. He didn't care anymore. He had snapped at him too many times and had probably gotten a rib broken. Or two or three. He coughed harshly and spat blood from his mouth. The crimson liquid had a metallic taste that made him gag, his chest heaving as he got so close to empty what he had in his stomach. So close to passing out and sleeping off the emotional pain he felt. He heaved once more before coughing dryly.
"Ludwig... Ludwig.. Please..." he croaked, leaning against the wall. Was it punishment? He had no clue. The man wasn't a big believer in the religion he was raised in. The iron cross around his neck was merely a reminder of his father. He was in his own personal hell. The Russian was probably coming to drag him inside again. He'd drag him inside and beat him again before Gilbert would slump onto the floor in a bloody mess, tears soaking his cheeks as he fell into a dreamless sleep.
He had laid out there by the wall for hours, his body numb and cold. His eyes were glazed over and his blonde hair wet as he leaned back, his back against the wall. He groaned softly and fought back the desire to sleep. If he slept, he'd sure as hell wake up to a brutal hit to the stomach with a pipe.
"Ludwig... Can you hear me?" he called softly. The sky had blackened and stars could be seen. He looked up towards the sky as he called to his brother. He groaned and closed his eyes, leaning his head back.
A jostling made him grumble softly and open one blue eye.
"Bruder, it's Ludwig." a voice said.
"V-Vhat...?" he asked, struggling to sit up, only to feel a strong pain in his side. He groaned in agony and coughed roughly.
"It's Ludwig. Vest?"
It took him a few moments to realize what he was saying, but even then he didn't move. His muscles were so tired and they ached, the pain in his chest worse than the day before.
"Vest... I zhought you forgot me." he smiled, opening one eye as tears fell down his cheeks.
"Nein, I could never forget about you." he said, giving a reassuring smile as he lifted his brother to his feet.
They had made it home a few hours ago and Gilbert had immediately went upstairs to shower, peeling off his clothing and stepping under the warm water. It felt as if the horrors of that house and the wall were thousands of years past. He shuddered softly and let the water run over his hair and face, sighing softly. Once he had finished, he pulled on some clean clothes and came downstairs, sitting beside his brother on the couch and leaning against him.
"Danke..." he murmured softly.
"For Vhat?" Ludwig asked, looking at the older nation.
"For saving me... For not forgetting me.. And most of all, for being mein little bruder." A soft kiss was pressed to Ludwig's lips and Gilbert settled down beside him, slipping into sleep not long after.
