Humphrey swiftly walked down a Paris sidewalk. He tugged his cap tighter onto his head and buried his hands in his pockets. He had no idea where he was going, but he needed to figure it out soon. The sky was dark and it looked like it could rain at any moment. Surely, it will hold off for a few minutes. He thought to himself.
Unfortunately it immediately started to pour down raining. "Just my luck." He muttered to himself. He quickly darted into the first door he saw. He took a breath and observed his surroundings. He was in a quaint little cafe. He took a seat by a small stage. He decided he'd wait out the rain here.
He zoned out, not paying attention to the clink of coffee cups or the happy chatter of the other customers. He heard something on the stage and looked up. He gaped at the sight before him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen stood upon the stage.
She wore blue jeans, a black and white striped shirt, and a black baret on her head. She had blonde hair with pink dyed tips. Humphrey took note that her eyes sparkled like the ocean.
She grabbed a microphone and gently tapped the top. "Hello, everybody! I'm Meeshell, and I'm gonna sing a song for you if that's okay." She sweetly smiled and the customers cheered.
Meeshell took a seat at a small keyboard and started to play. Humphrey was amazed at her skills, he was already in love with her song; even though she hadn't sung yet. She then started.
"I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore. When I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before."
She had the most amazing voice that he had ever heard . It was sweet but strong at the same time.
"But I have a talent, a wonderful thing, cause everyone listens when I start to sing. I'm so grateful and proud. All I want is to sing it out loud."
She took the mic off the stand and stood up. She raised her left arm, getting lost in the music.
"So I say, Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing. Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty.
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me."
She smiled as she continued to sing. Everyone could tell that not only was she amazing at singing, she also loved to do it.
"Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk.
She says I began to sing long before I could talk.
But I often wonder, how did it all start?
Who found out that nothing could capture a heart,
Like a melody can?
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan.
So I say,
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me."
She set the mic back on the stand and started playing the keyboard again.
"I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair.
I wanna sing it out to everybody.
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!"
She played at bit faster as she continued.
"Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing.
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing.
Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music,
For giving it to me."
She removed the mic once again and stood.
"So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me."
She smiled and took a bow. Humphrey stood up and wildly applauded. "Thank you." She smiled and took another bow.
Humphrey silently thanked the rain, without it, he'd never had seen Meeshell or heard her angelic voice.
Author's Note:
So I've been listening to a lot of Mamma Mia! .... so yeah this happened. I'm pretty sure that Meeshell and Humphrey were hinted at in the book about Meeshell. I'm not sure though. It would be cute though!
Let me know what you think!
Xoxo,
~Becca
