How long have we been together? Together? Like a couple? Is that what people thought?
"I'm sorry, together?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah! Aren't you two a couple?" Hallie asked again.
"No" I laughed, "We're just good friends."
"Well you sure look like a good couple." Megan chimed in.
"Oh my goodness, do people think we're together?" I questioned.
"I don't know, I just assumed. So maybe other people think it too."
Did people really think that? I never thought of Charlie as more than a friend. I mean, now that I'm thinking about it, we would be a good couple. We're already great friends and we get along. He was really cute and very handsome...oh who am I kidding.
All these feelings were so new and I'm sure Charlie didn't feel the same so I just brushed it off.
I was so consumed by that thought that I couldn't ever get back in the conversation, so I just listened along.
Charlie's POV
I hung out with Calum most of the night. I felt bad about leaving Lauren alone, but I figured she made friends with the other girls, otherwise she would have come looking for me.
We just talked the whole time about random stuff until he asked me a question out of the blue.
"So when are you gonna ask her out?"
"Who?" I asked.
"Lauren! She obviously likes you." He said.
"What? You're kidding, we're just friends."
"Well, I think she likes you and I know you like her." Calum added.
"She likes me? And what makes you think I like her?"
"Oh, please Charlie. You've been talking about her this whole time and you always talk about her when we hang out. And I've caught her looking over a few times already tonight."
"That's nothing, she probably just wants to make sure I'm still here and that she doesn't get lost. And she's really just a friend. I've never thought of her as more." I assured him.
"Well you're a good-looking guy and she's a pretty girl, that's all I'm saying. I think you two like each other. Might as well give it a shot, you haven't had a girlfriend in years. I think you could use one too." Calum said
"Yeah, sure. I'll think about it." I laughed, brushing his suggestion off.
We kept talking like this for a few minutes before I noticed Lauren walking toward us.
"You almost ready to head out?" She asked me.
I looked down at my watch, I hadn't been paying attention to the time. It was super late already, and I was tired.
"Yeah, just give me a minute and we can leave." I told her.
I finished my conversation with Calum, thanked him for a great party, which really was more of a friend gathering, and left with Lauren.
I escorted her up the street to the car with our arm interlocked. It felt nice, holding her arm like that. Did I have feelings for her? I had never thought about that before. I couldn't ruin our great friendship. I left these thoughts and opened the door for Lauren.
I shut the door for her, walked around the car, stepped in, and started driving her home. We weren't talking for the first bit of the ride, and I forgot to turn the music on. We rode in silence and it was getting a little awkward. I think Lauren sensed this too, because she soon broke the silence. But, I'm not sure if her question made the drive any less awkward.
"Did you hear what people think about us?" Lauren asked me.
"You mean us being a couple?" I replied.
"Yeah isn't that funny. Us, together."
"I didn't tell them that I swear." I said.
"Oh, no I didn't think you did." There was a short pause after she said this. Did she really think it was that funny? That unbelievable?
"I mean, it isn't so funny, is it?." I suggested.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, we do hang out all the time."
"Yeah you're right, but I never thought of us being more than friends."
"Yeah I know, I'm not trying to say that. I guess I just understand why people might think that."
We left it at that and I drove the rest of the way to her house. I opened the car door for her and walked her to her door. I gave her a quick hug and said goodnight.
When I got home, I couldn't help but just sit in bed and think about the possibility of us. Was there a possibility? She didn't really seem into it.
I kept these thoughts in my head for most of the night. It made it hard to sleep, but eventually I passed out in the bed.
Lauren's POV
After Charlie dropped me off I went inside and just layed in my bed. All I could think about was Charlie. Did I want more with him? Did I like him like that? Could we be a couple?
All these questions kept me up all night. What if Charlie wanted more. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I tried my hardest to forget about it, but I couldn't.
