Reese's POV

The sun had gone down and everyone was overly excited. Meanwhile Greenie and I are confused about what's going on. Some people have torches ready to begin the bonfire.

"Light him up!" Alby says as everyone throws their torch into the big wooden structure.

Everyone is chanting and playing music. Some people are flipping around. Everyone is having fun tonight. Greenie and I are leaning on a log not really knowing what to do. Newt then comes up and sits on the other side of Greenie.

"Hell of a first day, Greenie and She Bean" Newt says. Everyone has been calling us that since we can't remember our names but I kinda like it.

"Here." Newt says handing Greenie a glass of some amber colored liquid.

"Put some hair on your chest."

Greenie takes a sip before spitting it out in disgust.

"Oh, my God! What is that?"

"I don't even know." Newt says laughing .

"It's Gally's recipe." Newt says looking back to the dirty blonde haired boy who's sparring with another one of the boys.

"It's a trade secret"

"Yeah, he's still an asshole."

"He saved your life today."

"Trust me. The maze is a dangerous place."

"We're trapped here, aren't we?"

"For the moment."

"But... you see those guys?" Newt says pointing to the people who came out of the maze earlier.

"There, by the fire?"

"Those are the runners"

"That guy in the middle there, that's Minho." Newt gestures to the dark haired boy from earlier.

"He's the Keeper of the Runners."

"Every morning, when those doors open, they run the maze... mapping it, memorizing it, trying to find a way out."

"How long have they been looking?" I ask.

"Three years."

"And they haven't found anything?" Greenie adds.

"It's a lot easier said than done."

"Listen."

"Hear that?" Newt says as there's some rumbling coming from the maze.

"It's the maze, changing."

"It changes every night."

"How is that even possible?" I ask.

"You can ask the people who put us in here, if you ever meet the bastards."

"Listen, the truth is... the runners are the only ones who really know what's out there."

"They are the strongest and the fastest of us all."

"And it's a good thing, too... because if they don't make it back before those doors close... then they are stuck out there for the night."

"And no one has ever survived a night in the maze."

"What happens to them?"

"We call them Grievers."

"Of course, no one's ever seen one and lived to tell about it."

"But they're out there"

"Right, that's enough questions for one night. Come on."
