OF MECHANICAL DEVICES

SHE WAS SURROUNDED BY warmth. She had never possibly been more comfortable and warm before despite the fact she hadn't felt anything but cold in years. She pushed her heavy eyelids open before taking in her atmosphere. She was definitely not in the safety in her own home, in fact she had no idea where she was. That was, until her eyes set onto the arm wrapped around her torso leaving her with the same warmth that she'd woken up to. She lifted her eyes up to Roman's own sleeping body. She felt a smile tugging at her lips until she recognized a drop of blood on his white shirt. The same blood that belonged to Brandon. She jumped up tugging at her hair. Roman jumped awake alerted by her sudden departure. He took in her worry.

He held out his hands in an attempt to calm her down, "Jah. You're okay." She shook her head. It was only a matter of time until he came back with the authorities, and it would all be her fault. Her fault for not being strong enough to tell the truth. "Look at me." He slowly got off the bed and inched closer to her. "You're okay."

"Stop saying that," She hissed. "No I'm not, don't you get it, Roman. You just made everything worse he'll be back-" Roman shook his head.

"No," Roman assured her. "He won't. I made sure of that-" Her eyes widened before he shook his head. "For god's sake, Jah, I didn't kill the kid. I just...I have this thing. If I tell someone to do something, they do it. I don't know why, they just do. And I don't think that you can say that's weird seeing as you're a banshee." She took a step back. He nodded, "I knew the moment you screamed yesterday. Not to mention, it makes sense why you avoid touching people, but not me anymore, right? You have a connection with me, so you can touch me." She nodded slowly. "Thought so, Brandon won't be back. You're safe, I'm here." She nodded before allowing him to wrap his arms around her waist tightly. Here's the thing, falling in love with a Godfrey was the one thing anyone in town would warn you not to do, and yet here Freyja Wendall was doing exactly that.

"Are you scared of me?" Roman asked. She went to protest about how even then, even with the factor he could control other people's minds, he should fear her. "Not that kind of fear, Jah. Are you scared of me, of us?" She didn't know how to answer that question. Of course she was. Of course she was terrified of how much feelings she had for him, but ultimately no matter how much she feared her feelings for him, she couldn't imagine a world where she turned on him for it.

She turned setting her palms on either one of his cheeks, "Terrified." He frowned, but she placed a kiss on his lips before ruffling his hair. "I've never been more scared of anything in my life." And just like that, she was his. No more fighting, no more running. His.

Roman waited for his mother to leave before leading Freyja out of his room and down to the kitchen. He'd explained to her that he didn't want his mother getting wind of them. Not when his mother had made it apparent that Roman's family was the only happiness she wanted him to have-and the only happiness he got from his family was his sister and cousin. Freyja had seen Shelley around school, but she'd never gotten a moment to actually speak to her. "Hey," Freyja smiled at the taller girl. Shelley was unnaturally tall with jet black hair that covered one of her eyes. From what Freyja had gathered, Shelley had to type whatever she was thinking into her phone because she couldn't speak.

"Hello," The mechanical device replied to her.

"I'm Freyja," The brunette replied as Shelley smiled. The girl seemed insanely kind, and Freyja couldn't help but feel the need to protect her from then on.

"I know," Shelley typed. "Roman told me ab-" Roman grabbed the device from his sister's hands before glaring at her. Freyja smirked before laughing.

"All good things I hope," She said. Shelley nodded at her before Roman rolled his eyes and handed her it back. He wandered over to the fridge to scavange for food. He couldn't help but smile at the matter that two people that he deeply cared for were getting along, he just hoped Letha would like her aswell.

Freyja sat inside of Roman's car as he blasted music that she had never listened to before. His mind was clearly far out of his red Jaguar, and her mind was completely wrapped in all things considering him. She was in that single moment, and she truly wished he would come back to her. She examined him as he turned down her street, and she found herself reaching out to him-metaphorically. She had always been scared of her gifts. She had always ran away from it, but in that moment she wanted to understand him whether it meant invading his history or not.

The moment that her mind met his, and their hands laced to one another's she was filled with something bigger then herself. The smell of blood consumed her, and she had felt something she had restricted for herself alone. She felt fear. Fear that Roman was something completely unearthly, ungodly even. She felt manipulation, blood, and death running through him. Freyja had always been the seer of death, but she could feel that Roman was death himself.
