t minus 12 days / / the oak sees all
"henry, it's nice of you, you know?"
"hm? what?" he rolls over to his side, the wet grass staining his white t-shirt, but there is only enough space on the towel for one, and hazel needn't know.
"for you to spend your time here, helping people when you could be doing anything else."
henry watches the rays of the sun longingly kiss her nose and eyes, trailing to her chin as she faces the clouds, vision obscured by the occasional branch of the oak tree looming above.
if only she knew.
"i like spending time with you." he shrugs. a sigh escapes his parted lips, and he places the back of his head atop his folded arms.
"why?" she rolls over on to her side, unaware that her clouded eyes are boring into swirls of mahogany and a tornado of gold.
and for the first time ever, he can see glints of forest skies hidden among clouds of gray, framed by eyelashes that take his breath away.
"to be honest,"
he finally speaks, not wanting to ever break the contact her eyes hold with his, though he knows it cannot last long.
because nothing beautiful is eternal, and daydreams such as this one are on the brink of turning into nightmares.
seconds away.
and he finishes his thought, "I don't exactly know."
