"Oh, hey, Nicole!" Soda greeted me, his arm around the girl who was apparently his girlfriend.

"Hi..." I said awkwardly, I was never good at meeting new people. Sure, I was easy going when meeting Ponyboy, but that was only because he was....well, Ponyboy!

"This is my girl Sandy, by the way," he said to me, gesturing to the pretty blonde. Then he introduced me to Sandy. "And babe, this is Nicole, Two-Bit's kid sister."

Sandy smiled warmly and shook my hand. "Nice meeting you, Nicole. Say, have these boys gotten on your nerves yet?" She pretended to cast an annoyed look at Soda, which made us two giggled.

I shook my head. "Nah, when you've gottta brother like Two-Bit, guys don't get your blood boilin' anymore."

Sandy opened her mouth to reply when the girl near Steve cut her off, "So you do hang around the guys a lot?" She asked snobbishly, her head turned to me.

"Evie, don't...." Steve replied, looking uncomfortable. Soda and Pony were off talking about something near the coke machine. I secretly wished they were both by me..Soda wouldn've stuck up for me, or so I hope. And Pony, heck, I'm sure he'd say something! And something is better than nothing, but don't get me wrong, I'm not saying my crush can't think of good combacks. It's just, his head seems to be stuck in the clouds.

Evie ignored him and turned back to me. "You gonna answer my question?"

Then Sandy stood up for me. "C'mon, Evie. Why do you see her as a threat? She's just---" She turned to face me. So maybe she shared the same characteristic as her boyfriend! (Ponyboy told me about the many times Soda stood up for him whenever Darry would scold him.)

"15." I answered back quickly.

"She's just 15...I assure you she isn't gonna steal Steve."

Evie narrowed her eyes at Sandy and spun on her heel. Well nice meeting you too, I thought darkly.

Steve had the look of humiliation on his face. Then he started apologizing to me. "I'm sorry 'bout Evie...she's not the friendliest.."

"It's fine, it's fine. Hah..." I managed to plaster a small smile on my face.

He then waved goodbye to both of us and announced he was going to get back to work. "Can you tell Soda I'm callin' him?"

Sandy nodded and went to look for her boyfriend. She seemed really nice, and real to me. She stuck up for me even though we barely knew eachother, even when Soda wasn't in the conversation. So it wasn't an act. Or at least I hope.
