Chapter 2

He woke up at 5:30 the next morning, showered and was dressed by 6:15. He walked downstairs to find the twins at the table eating cereal. "Good morning ladies." he said. "there is some cereal over there if you want some, and there's fruit, coffee, milk and juice." Cassidy said. "thanks" he said. When he had gotten his cereal and had sat down to eat Miranda came down the stairs dressed in a Chanel suit. "Good Morning Darlings" Miranda said and kissed each twin. "James" she said nodding and went to the refrigerator and pulled out a yogurt. "Are you girls completely packed?" "Yes" they said together. "Good your father will pick you up after school." "Will you be home?" Caroline asked. "No Caro darling I probably won't and I'm sorry, I will call you later tonight and I will of course see you when you come back from your father's in four days after Thanksgiving break." Miranda said. The girls nodded and finished their meal in silence. At 7, Roy pulled up and Miranda, Cassidy, and Caroline got in the back and James sat in the front. They dropped the girls off at school first. James watched as Miranda kissed her twins goodbye. "I love you both very much and I will see you in a few days." she said. The arrived at Elias Clark at eight. "So you are going to follow me the whole day?" Miranda asked. "yes" he said simply. Miranda scowled and got out of the car with James right behind her as she entered the building.

When they got off the floor at Runway Emily was on her heels and taking orders as Miranda spouted them off, Miranda stopped at her new second assistant's desk and dropped her coat and bag down in front of her. "And get me my eggs and coffee, that's all" she said and walked into her office. Emily immediately instructed the new assistant on what she needed to do watched the girl scurry off as she hung up Miranda's coat and bag. James shut Miranda's door and sat down across from her. "It seems to me that everyone here is terrified of you." he said. Miranda raised her eyebrow and replied "yes" A short time later the new assistant appeared with her coffee and eggs. "I need to see those photos Serena has of the shoot, that's all" she told the stunned woman.

The day wore on and Miranda noticed that every time Emily had to come into her office she would look James up and down. "He is an attractive man, but he is a jack ass I don't see why Emily would swoon over..." her thoughts were interrupted by Irv Ravitz walking into her office. "Miranda, I need to talk to you." She removed her glasses and looked up at him. "Very well" she said. "Alone, you can wait outside" Irv said to James. James got up and walked out of the office, closing the door behind him. "Miranda just how long is this body guard of yours going to be here?" he asked. "Until the murderer is caught obviously Irv." "Miranda he is a distraction, every woman in this building that he happens to wink at looses her train of thought for about five minutes. Every time you leave your office for a meeting he is flirting with one of the employees while you walk ahead of him. I want him gone Miranda" Irv said Miranda ground her teeth and looked up at her boss. "Irv, he is here to protect me, I am not blind I have noticed him hitting on every woman in sight while my back is turned. He is doing it to try and annoy me and as soon as he sees that it isn't working he will stop. He. Is. Not. Going. Anywhere. That's all." Irv turned around and stormed out of the office. Miranda looked at her clock and saw that it was 5:30 her conversation with Irv had given her a splitting headache. "Great, and I have dinner with him and a few other Runway members." she thought. She arranged her desk back and walked out of her office to find James hovering over Emily. She clenched her teeth together and rolled her eyes. "Emily get my coat and bag and call Roy I want him outside in two minutes." she said in a lowered voice. Emily jerked away from James and blushed. "Yes Miranda." Emily quickly phoned Roy and then hurriedly grabbed Miranda's coat and bag. Miranda started heading towards the elevator and turned around just in time to see James kiss Emily on the cheek. "By all means James move at a glacial pace it really thrills me." She said James caught up with her and they got on the elevator. It was an unpleasantly silent ride. Miranda could feel James's eyes on her. They got off the elevator and headed out of the building just as Roy was pulling up. James motioned for Roy to stay in the car and he opened the door for Miranda. Miranda scowled at him and entered the car with James right behind her.
