Once they arrived at the townhouse and managed to get inside the first thing Miranda did was head upstairs to her room with James behind her. Miranda walked into her closet and picked out a pair of Gucci jeans and a Donna Karen sweater. She changed quickly and then walked into the bathroom and pulled out her makeup. James came and stood behind her as she looked at herself in the mirror. The swelling on her lips was barely noticeable now. "You're still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." James said and Miranda blushed. "Thank you." Miranda pulled out her base and began to apply it to her severely bruised cheek. "I'm going to guess that you don't want the twins to notice how bad the bruising is?" Miranda looked at James and nodded her head. He leaned down and softly kissed her neck. A few minutes later Miranda was finished applying her makeup, and thanks to it her bruise was now barely noticeable. Just as Miranda and James were headed downstairs the front door opened and the twins barreled on in with Greg behind them. "Mom!" they screamed in unison, and ran towards her. Miranda held out her arms and they both hugged her. "Mom, we thought he was going to kill you." Cassidy said. "Yeah, Nigel called Dad and we didn't know if we would ever see you again." Caroline said. The twins hugged Miranda closer and she kissed the top of their heads. "I'm fine my darlings, thanks to James everything is fine." Miranda said. They looked up at their mother and for the first time noticed her face. "Mom! He hurt you!" Cassidy said and pointed to Miranda's face. Miranda bent down to their level and calmly said: "It's just a bruise my babies it will go away, and I promise the bruise is as bad as it gets, nothing is broken, I will probably be a little sore, but this is the extent, if it weren't for James it would have been a lot worse." The twins looked over at James and then let go of Miranda and ran to him and hugged him. "Thanks for saving our mom." Caroline said. James stroked her head. "Absolutely no problem." He said. "Girls go and put your bags upstairs, then we can find something to do, alright?" Miranda said and the twins grinned, told their father goodbye and bounded up the stairs. "I'll give you two a minute." James said and walked towards the kitchen.
"I'm glad you're alright Miranda." Greg said. Miranda nodded her head."For a little while there I actually wondered what life would be like without you, and I couldn't." He said. Miranda gave him a confused look and he came closer. "You're part of my life because of our children, our marriage ended horribly, we argued and never worked anything out, we just let it all sit there, and finally it all came to one explosive end. I never fully stopped loving you because of our children, I know you feel the same about me, even though our relationship has had plenty of ups and downs. Seeing the look on our girls' faces a few short hours ago, was awful. I hoped as much as they did that you would be alright. I'm very glad that you are." "Thank you Greg, for everything." Miranda said. Greg nodded. "The girls were so worried about you this whole week, that they actually behaved themselves for the most part. No major pranks on Cindy, I'm actually kind of disappointed by that." Greg smiled and Miranda raised her eyebrow. "Things not going well with the new girlfriend?" Miranda asked amused. "No, and don't look so smug." Greg half laughed. "You seem to know how long my relationships are going to last before I do." Greg said and shook his head. "Anyways, I'm sure with everything going on you completely forgot about Thanksgiving, which is understandable, so that being said, Happy late Thanksgiving Miranda. The twins stuffed themselves yesterday, I'll leave you now." Greg said and stepped in and kissed Miranda's good cheek. Then she showed himself out. The twins came bounding back down the stairs and smiled at their mother. "Mom, can we all sit down and watch a movie?" Cassidy asked. "Of course we can Bobbsie. What would you like to watch?" "Alvin and the Chipmunks" they said in unison." Miranda smiled. "All right, well why don't we make some popcorn, and then settle down and watch it?" Miranda asked, and as a reply the twins bounded ahead of her.
A couple of hours later as the credits rolled Miranda looked down at her girls who were each propped up against her, and noticed their sleepy faces. "All right my darlings, time for bed." Miranda said softly. "Do we have to?" Came Caroline's sleepy reply. Miranda rolled her eyes and looked over at Patricia lounging in the corner of the room. "Even Patricia is ready for bed, girls." Miranda motioned to James and he came over and scooped up Caroline with his good arm, and Miranda stood up and then took Cassidy in her arms. They headed to the girls respective rooms, and Patricia followed. They tucked them both in and then Patricia went downstairs to her bed. "That dog is trained far too well." James said chuckling. Miranda smiled and headed back to the entertainment room to turn everything off. "You know Miranda, M said something very interesting to me earlier today when I was running to your rescue." James said. Miranda set the remotes down and sighed. "Knowing her temper I'm going to take an extremely wild guess and say that in a fit of hysteria she told you she would fire you or something along those lines, if you didn't get her niece back in one piece." Miranda said and turned to him. "Yeah, that's pretty much it your highness." James said. Miranda raised an eyebrow. "You're not mad?" she asked. "I'm a little shocked, but mad? Definitely not." James said and grinned. Miranda smiled and sat down on the couch. "That's actually what I was going to talk to you about this evening, before my life nearly ended that is." Miranda said, and James stared.
