Chapter 37

  Before anyone actually realized it had happened the morning of the wedding was upon them. James had spent the night at Nigel's apartment upon Caroline, Cassidy's and Nigel's insistence that he was not to see her before the wedding. Miranda rolled her eyes but had agreed. Knowing that it would be easier to just allow them to have their way on this matter. M had flown into New York the day before and was staying at the townhouse. They were having the wedding where the annual RUNWAY benefit was held. Miranda had wanted it in the ballroom that way part of the aisle could be the staircase she always made her entrance in at the benefits. The whole ballroom would hold all of the friends and family. Plus the RUNWAY staff as they were covering the wedding to put in the next issue.

"Mom! You look gorgeous!" Cassidy said as she bounced into the room in her gold gown. Miranda smiled and turned to her daughter. She had just finished putting on her gown and doing her hair and makeup. Caroline came into the room behind her sister and stared at Miranda. "Whoah! Cass is right you are beautiful mom! I love the dress!" Caroline said. "thank you my darlings." Miranda said and watched as M came into the room dressed also in a gold skirt and blazer. She carried Claudia in her arms and Nigel came in behind her with Catherine in his. Both were dressed in white dressed with gold lace. Nigel's suit was black with a gold colored tie. "Alright Miranda being as I am your maid of honor I believe it's time to present you with the something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." Nigel said and put Catherine in her carrier and set her on the bed. M did the same with Claudia and they both turned to Miranda.

"You start Caroline" Nigel said and Caroline came up to her mother and handed her a light blue garter, with a gold ribbon. "Something blue" Caroline said and Miranda lifted the large skirt of her dress and placed her leg in a chair and allowed Caroline to attach it to her left thigh. "Thank you darling." Miranda said and kissed her forehead."Cassidy, your turn." Nigel said and Cassidy got up and pulled out a rectangular box and handed it to her mother. "Something new" Cassidy said and Miranda opened the box to find a short diamond studded necklace and she smiled. "I'm guessing Uncle Nigel helped with this" she said and helped Cassidy up into a chair and turned around and allowed Cassidy to fasten it around her neck. "M" Nigel said M stepped up and held out her closed hand to Miranda. "Something old" They were once mine, but now I want you to have them. When I saw the dress I knew that they would go perfect with it. Miranda held out her hand and M deposited two teardrop diamond earrings into them. "thank you M" Miranda said and put them on. "Finally" Nigel said. "Something borrowed" he held out a small rectangular box and Miranda opened it. Inside was a white gold diamond bracelet that matched Miranda's necklace perfectly. "This is my sister's" she thought it would match and as usual she was right." Nigel took the bracelet out of the box and cliped it on Miranda's wrist. "Miranda I can honestly say that you have never looked more beautiful and that you are now ready to get married." Nigel said and Miranda smiled. Roy picked them up in Miranda's garage so she would not have to fight the press or risk ruining her dress. It was no secret that her and James were tying the not today and the headlines were riddeled with "wedding number three! Will this one last?" They had chosen to ignore it.

Miranda's mind seemed to be in a fog as soon as she stepped into the car. "What if he changes his mind? What if this this marriage falls apart too?" the next thing she knew she was standing at the top of the staircase in the ballroom and as she looked down the aisle and at the end of the room she saw James standing there, waiting for her. "You won't screw this one up." She said to herself and the music began to play. She watched as Caroline and Cassidy walked down the stairs. Caroline in front holding Catherine and Cassidy behind her holding Claudia. Miranda smiled and hoped the babies would be quiet through the ceremony. Next was Nigel he walked down the stairs with confidence and grace. Once he had reached the end, and was standing in place and the music changed to Canon in D M took Miranda's arm and linked it with hers. Everyone rose to their feet and Miranda and M began descending the staircase. Cameras from the few members of the RUNWAY staff flashed but Miranda ignored them. She kept her icy blue eyes locked with James' s warm blue ones the whole way down. She felt her stomach flutter at the sight of him. "He's so handsome" she thought and smiled. James watched her descend the stairs and walk towards him and he smiled at her. "My God she is goregous" he thought.
