"Ar-are you a Muslim?"

She shook my arm and let go angrily.

"My parents are and my brother is.But they're all backward and can't wait to marry me off to the next man that comes home..."

I mustered up some courage.

"WellI I can do what I want, thank you very much Sally!"

She shut her mouth and sweared.I guess she said too much.I felt sorry for her for her loss.It looked like her mind was spinning but before I could continue she marched ahead. We arrived at a door and she stopped with her hand on the handle.

"Not one word, curry face.I don't get what's your problem dragging your mess here but I'll tell ya,you've invited hell."

Before I could retort, she opened the door and flourished into the room, pausing at the teacher and then walking back out.I walked in tentatively, all strength sapped. That had truly shocked me.Never had anyone so openly threatened me in school but then again I was in Manchester and had only changed school four times, two of them being posh private schools.I guess the sheltering hadn't paid off.

"Thank you Sally.You may leave."

My parents never really wanted to put me in a mixed school as they said it would be more difficult to study and that boys stink.Joking, they never said that but I didn't really care.May had chosen this school since Pete went here too and so I could 'adjust' better.Plus with this school also having 'science' in its name, hope for my grades was present too.

"Hello,who may you be?"

The man snapped me out of my thoughts. He adjusted his glasses and leaned slightly forward on his chair. His head was balding and his green eyes looked at me with a squint. He looked to be in his mid fifties yet someone hadn't informed him that a tweed jacket and khaki trousers did not match him.At all.

"Hi,I'm Aazmi.The new student..."

The class immediately burst out laughing for some reason. The teacher rose to quieten them and yet it took a while for a few boys at the back to get their breath back.

"Is that a rag on your head!"

I clenched my hands and dug my fingers into my skin.Ignoring the comment and not bursting.

"Right then,Thompson detention!excuse my class for their behaviour. They're really a nice bunch otherwise they'd find themselves in detention with Thompson."

This time Mr Mathews laughed in the silence. The student staring at a boy in the back, resting his feet on his desk and leaning back on his chair. He glared at me and I moved my eyes away quickly,so this was the famous
Thompson.
"So you can sit down over there, see the seat near the front window.Oh but before that, who was it that volunteered...ah John was it?"

Nobody moved until the teacher turned to look pointedly at one boy at the back.Sighing,he dejectedly scraped back his and walked to the front.

"John will quickly show you around until the bell goes for class.Quick now."

The boy began walking for the door without a word and I followed him out.He had jet black hair and chestnut brown skin.He didn't once turn around and I had to speed up to keep pace with him.He also towered above me, just another tall person to crane my head up at.

Finally he stopped at a double door, and push one slightly open.He face me finally and his annoyed expression was clear in his brown eyes.

"This is the canteen, everyone hangs around here at lunch and gets food."

"I think that is the point of a canteen,"I blurted out.

He turned to me,his eyes glimmering with something. The look passed though.
