Hank had just gotten out of work. Fowler wanted him to stay late on a case. Hank was there until ten. Now he was driving home, in the rain. Sumo must be starving. As Hank turns on a street a seen a small shadow in the rain, standing there. At first he though it was nothing until he could properly see. A young boy stood with only shorts and a top on, a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He looked to be seven and from what Hank could see, the boy had no shoes on. He quickly stopped and walked to the boy.
"Hey kid. What you doing out here? Where's your parents?" The boy said nothing, just jumped and backed away. The rain was getting heavier. Hank wasn't going to leave him out here.
"Come on kid. It's safe. Don't fear. Lets get you out the rain," Hank held his hand out. The boy was shaking but took Hanks hand, knowing he has no where to go. Hank brought the kid to his car and buckled him in, then Hank got in the drivers side. Hank started to drive again. He and the boy were drenched. "So, where do you live? I can drive you home." The boy moved quickly.
"No. No! Please! Don't! I can't go home! I can't!" The boy started to cry. Hank was shocked and looked at the boy.
"Alright. You can stay at mine." The boy grabbed on to the blanket tighter. Hank drove until he found his house and parked. He got out and got the boy out quickly, rushing to his house. He quickly got his keys, refusing to put the boy down due to him having no shoes, and opened the door. Sumo heard Hank come in and started to bark. The boy jumped and Sumo ran to Hank. He was jumping on the man's legs.
"Down doggy!" The boy yelled as he tightened his grip on Hank.
"Sumo. Go lie down." Sumo stopped and went to lie down. Hank closed the door and put the boy down. He stayed by the door as Hank walked into a bedroom. It was Coles but because he barely sees Cole the room was filled with boxes and papers. He found a box under the bed, which had lots of stuff on it, getting it out and picking some stuff out of it. He got a pair of woolly pjamas, socks, underwear and slippers. All belonged to Cole. He got up and walked to the boy. He passed him the stuff.
"Thank you." Hank stood up.
"Go change in the bathroom. Then come back. I want to ask you some stuff." The boy nodded and ran to the bathroom, shutting the door. Hank went to get a pillow and cover for the boy. He couldn't put him in the messy bedroom. Hank put the pillow on the couch and the cover.
"Done." Hank looked up to see the small boy standing by the door.
"Come here, please," the boy walked over and stood by Hank. Hank patted the space next to him and the boy sat down. "So let's start with the first question. What's your name?" The boy fiddled with the hem of his shirt and looked down. He mumbled.
"Connor RK800." Hank looked at strange. It was a funny second name.
"Okay. Why were you out side in the rain?" Connor shuddered.
"Running." Hank nodded.
"From who kid?" Connor started to shake. He shook his head. He refused to tell. Hank stopped questioning the boy.
"Alright Connor. Why don't you sleep?" Connor nodded and Hank walked to his room, closing the door and kicking off his shoes. He got dressed into sleep wear and once he hit the pillow snores filled the room.
Connor was shaking on the couch. He was scared. He was scared of the giant St Bernard dog. He was scared if the storm. He was scared of the man who took him in. He was scared of his father, coming to take him back. He just wanted to mother. When Connor started to cry the dog came over. He laid by the couch and lifted his head.
"Your.... Names Sumo.... Right?" Connor put his hand out and Sumo licked it. Connor was shaking but he put his hand on the dogs head and patted him. Sumo liked it and Connor carried on. Feeling relief.
