Surely enough, three and a half months later, I went into labor at the bunker. I decided to have the baby at home. Mary was beyond excited, but she hated that she couldn't be in the room when I gave birth.
Matt smiled as he helped a very pregnant me down the hall to our room, "I'm sorry, Mary. But you, Uncle Sam, and Grandpa will have to wait to see the baby."
"But, what if something goes wrong?" Mary replied.
I chuckled breathlessly, "Baby, I'm telling yah. It won't be long. When I was in labor for you, it lasted four hours from the water breaking to the birth."
She was surprised, "Hours?! When you said 'short', I through we were talking minutes."
Dean stepped around the corner, "Come on, peanut. Go to the library. Give your mama some time. I'm gonna help put her in the bed. I'll meet you and Sammy in a minute."
He walked to me and held my free hand, "So, how we doing, Jackie?"
"I cut my nails this time." I laughed, panting as we reached the room. He looked at me sternly and I replied. "But I'm okay. The contractions are closing together. A lot more pain this time, but I'm okay."
Matt spoke worriedly just as we got to the bed, "Next contraction should be coming now."
The bed had been prepped. The boys put many towels on the bed and piled the pillows at the headboard. Mary added her pillow to the mix, saying it was good luck.
Dean and Matt both lifted me from under my legs and slowly placed me on the bed while the contraction was going on, so I was very distracted with keeping my breathing under control and not screaming.
After I was situated and the contraction stopped, Dean came to kiss my forehead, "Okay so I'm going to sit with your girl. On the next contraction, you're going to start the pushing. You gonna be okay?"
I nodded, breathing harshly. Matt said, "Next contraction is hot on our tail, so uh."
Dean kissed my forehead again, "I love you, Jackie."
"I love you too, Dad." I said as he walked to the door. He smiled before he closed it behind him, and Matt and I were left alone.
Matt took off his flannel, leaving him in a grey undershirt, and he leaned over me, "Are you ready to have this baby?"
"No." I said, smiling.
He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine slowly. Our lips were together only a second before I felt the contraction coming.
"I love you." I said, breaking the kiss.
