The sun crept towards the trees once again, but this time the clearing had a sense of unease. No sound was made other than the rustle of leaves. Linda and Morgan stood once more in the enchantment circle, waiting for the moon to rise; they would stay there until it reached its peak and the spell was sealed. Jaysen stood nearby, watching and listening for trouble. His men were not visible but were gathered in the growing darkness near the road.
The line of fire had grown considerably closer and individual torches could be seen. The line carried on for a good while, disappearing and reappearing as it went over the slight hills and through the trees. They were definitely not trying to hide; maybe to intimidate.
Standing in the circle, Linda could feel a slight breeze, and while the night was warm, she felt a chill run down her spine. The fact that one man could bring such a force down on their heads simply because someone disagreed with him made her blood boil. She knew that if anything bad happened tonight, if any of Jaysen's men died, Morgan would blame herself. Linda couldn't bear the thought; therefore, if anything did happen, she would see to it that the king paid for it tenfold.
Linda realized that the sun had set completely, taking the last ray of light with it. That meant the moon would rise soon and they needed to be ready. The incantation ended at midnight, so they had roughly four hours. The end incantation was much longer than the initial one but much simpler. They simply needed to stand in the circle and repeat one phrase, written and spoken, every hour. Consummatum est, meaning it is complete, would signify the completion of the incantation, leaving the spell in the power of the moon and earth. After that, they would be safe.
Morgan stood in the enchantment circle with Linda. The moon was an hour from its peak and the line of fire was half an hour away. With her hand on Linda's shoulder, she once again whispered the incantation as her friend wrote it out in the dirt. After this, there would only be one more time, when the moon reached its peak and the spell was sealed. Hopefully, Jaysen and his men could hold the king off until then.
