Itachi had not had a day like that in far too long. His bones ached, their was dirt all over him and he knew his team had extraordinary abilities barely tapped into. He was excited to be able to shape such an amazing team. He had even managed to get Sai on his side after he had woken up, he respected that Sai held no malice towards him after the defeat and had even earned the boys respect back for it.

It was dark out when he arrived home. Walking along the path to his house he spotted someone on his steps, not needing to use the Sharingan he saw a mop of blond hair that had swept into the perfect style. 'Naruto' Itachi thought and immediately his heart jumped. Their date. What time was it.

"Naruto." Itachi said quickening his pace.

"Itachi." Naruto said, he rocked on his heels as he watched Itachi approach.

"I'm so sorry I-" Itachi said coming to a stop in front of him.

"It's fine I just came over to make sure you were okay. I need to leave now though." Naruto forced out and walked around the Uchiha.

"Naruto, wait." Itachi grabbed his wrist and spun them so that he was blocking the blonds path.

"Get off. I said it was fine, alright." Naruto's teeth were gritted and the words came out anything but fine.

"I'm sorry I forgot our meal, time got away from me." Itachi was sincere but it didn't matter to Naruto who had been stood up on his first attempt at a first date ever.

"It was only a meal right. Not like it was a date or anything." Naruto said bitterly.

"Wasn't it?" Itachi asked confused. Naruto looked up at him.

"You're the one who just called it a meal." His voice was almost a whisper and Itachi could tell he had hurt him by simply forgetting the meal. He took a second to take in Naruto appearance and realised this probably meant a lot to him.

Itachi's time meant a lot to a lot of people though. Itachi was struck with the memory of a brunette who had also shown up at his front door crying madly when he had said he wasn't interested in her after their first date.

Over the years Itachi had met his fair share of people who liked him for what he was rather than who he was and with a sinking feeling that Naruto might just be one of those people as well.

"Listen... it was a date, like I said I'm sorry time got away from me." Itachi began. He liked Naruto, but the awful feeling of being used was too strong to deny. He wondered what Naruto would say. Wondered where it could go from here if it could go anywhere.

"And like I said. It's fine. I just wanted to make sure you were fine." Iwas impossibly good how much hurt and anger he was hiding, his words were passive. He once again pulled his hand free and began to walk away.

Unable to accept that for an answer and just watch the blond walk away Itachi blocked his path again. This time Naruto did let his annoyance show and growled at Itachi sudden and quick appearance.

"Come inside for a drink. It's the least I can do." Itachi offered, scanning Naruto's face trying to predict what he would say. Naruto thought about it and looked down at his shoes. Obviously not convinced. "Please." Itachi asked quietly and Naruto met his black eyes. Itachi realised in the dark how amazing Naruto's eyes were, against the black background Naruto eyes glowed blue as if they had a lightbulb behind them.

Unable to help himself Itachi felt the Sharingan activate and made no effort to hold it back. His heart went wild when he saw Naruto's reaction. Amazement and wonder. He had seen it before on countless faces but never before like how he was seeing it on Naruto's tanned, touchable features.

"Okay." Naruto said his voice so quiet Itachi barley heard it himself, even with his face having floated so closely to Naruto's own. Itachi nodded, eyes still locked with Naruto's and just about managed to peel himself away.

Itachi regained his control over the sharingan and took a deep breath. "Follow me." He pulled out his eyes and opened the door for them, Naruto followed behind. His whole composure was stiff and awkward. "Tea? Water? What's your poison?" Itachi asked, attempting to lighten the mood.

"Tea please. Unless you have some Sake in there." Naruto spoke loudly as Itachi had began to enter the kitchen with Naruto still mesmerised by the furnishings of the house.

"You're not legal." Itachi quipped back, amused he would even try to swing that.

"That hasn't stopped you yet." Naruto said without thought and even Itachi could hear the slapping noise of Naruto covering his mouth as soon as the words left it.

Itachi felt awkward at it. The laws of this kind of thing were loose. A lot of people would see what he was doing with Naruto as wrong, while others would say there's only a few years between them. Indeed it was complicated. Generally, if both parties were over sixteen, without too much of an age gap, it was always accepted, so long as it was solidified with a formal mating ceremony. Mating ceremonies were often done at Itachi's age which is why the Council were pushing it so hard on him to find a partner.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it like that." Naruto's head popped up from around the corner of the kitchen, flushed with pink. Itachi realised he had been deep in thought and shook his head.

"No it was funny, don't worry." Itachi reassured.

"Right." Naruto came further into the room and took in everything it had to offer. "You know, I knew you guys were well off but I never imagined anything like this." Naruto was amazed at the surroundings and Itachi could tell.

Itachi snorted. "Is that why you agreed to a date with me?" Itachi asked before he could stop himself. He meant it as a joke but the words only came off bitterly.

Instead of an answer, he got a look from the blond that was not a happy one. After a moment he spoke up as well. "No...it was the hair." Naruto said dramatically and very seriously. So much so that Itachi had to touch his own hair and wonder if he was being truthful. Naruto was turned away from him examining a painting.

"Then I'll chop it all off." Itachi declared bravely, which in turn made Naruto looked at him in disbelief.

"You what to get rid of me that badly, huh?" Naruto had a laugh in his voice that made Itachi chuckle slightly himself. Instead of answering to the joke he walked over and took Naruto's hand in his own.

"Never." Itachi whispered against the skin of his hand and kissed the back of it, eyes on Naruto's own through the whole process.
