Remus said yes. In a heartbeat. But it took his vocal cords a little bit more time to catch up.
"Ummm.." He looked down. He was trying to say yes, but a small part of him was saying: no, he's lying to you. It's a joke.
"Never mind, it was stupid of me to think that. I get it." Sirius laughed, but wasn't feeling very gleeful. He felt stupid, to be honest. How on earth could he think that Rem-
"What makes you think I don't want to go?" Remus looked up. They were taking off their skates, well, Sirius was, after a good three hours of skating and that ended up in the question.
"So do you want to go?"
"...Yes. Yeah, I do." Remus looked back down, blood rushing to his cheeks.
"Sweet."
If his tone was describing what he felt on the inside, it definitely wouldn't have been as casual as it was. It was have been high pitched, with a lot of voice cracks, just like it used to be when he was thirteen, and he would always get nervous. They decided they'd go out the day after. It obviously wouldn't be like a real proper date where you stress out that the other isn't coming, because in this scenario, you struggle to find places to get changed -sometimes you have to do to it in a bathroom stall where if people are in the next stall wondering if you're trying to be Mrs Doubtfire- and since your date is with you at nearly all times, there's, say it the me, no secrets. Remus was sure he'd be stressed out even if Sirius wasn't with him. It's scary sometimes, you know? He hasn't been on a date in years and... And what should he wear? Did he even pack anything formal-casual? No, he did. He distinctly remembers raiding that sort of section in his wardrobe, so he would have definitely something to wear. It was the day after Sirius had asked him to go out for dinner with him, and as the time was nearing, he supposed it would be a good idea to pick out what to wear. In front of Sirius. Because no secrets. And no body could really be bothered to send him out of the car for a few minutes while he pulled out clothes to take in to a dirty public bathroom. A dark green button up and some black skinny jeans. Wait, is that too formal? No, Sirius said they were going to a restaurant so it'd be fine. What type of restaurant? Ok, no. He was overreacting. Sirius was probably hardly even thinking about it.
Except, he had no idea that his date was having the exact same conversation with himself. Just he was disguising it by looking at his messages with Peter on his phone."Sirius, do I look nice?" Remus asked, fervently. He was standing just outside the car door, watching as Sirius walked in front of him, and though Remus didn't know, was trying to cover his blush.
"Definitely. In fact, you're starting to worry me; I won't be the sexy one anymore." He turned to Remus and took both his hands in his. He watched as the wind blew his date's hair back and decided that it was a good decision that he tied his hair up in a bun. He didn't believe in fate, or destiny, because he knew that every unexpected action can change everything. This wasn't destiny. This was purely an action. A beautiful, out of control, action. An action that will lead to something else, but not his destiny. He would make that his own.
"This is all strange, isn't it? In a good way though, it's very... Exciting. Who knows? This might be the start of the next big thing, or maybe we'll die as we cross the road. Fantastic, if I do say so myself." The last bit was said so sarcastically that if Sirius was a stranger, he might've had to edge slowly away.
"Sure. Anyway, as you already know, I'm taking you to a restaurant," He started walking forward, entering a busy street, "so I wanted this to be very perfect, but I found out that my uncle, the one who actually gives half a damn about me, has a fancy place to eat 'round here. So I thought it'd be nice to go there." Sirius looked at Remus for a reaction.
His date made a small comment of saying how that was fine, but he couldn't see the thoughts going through his head at the time.Remus was worried. More than worried. He knew Sirius' Uncle Alphard, and he was quite nice, though slightly intimidating. And judgemental, but very, very slightly. But there was a very big chance that he wouldn't like him. The scars that littered his face, perhaps his style was a bit trashy. Oh, why was he always bothered by the tiniest things? It's fine, he looks normal.
"Rem? Remus?"
"Ye- I mean, that's fine." Remus stuttered. He didn't know how long he'd zoned out for, but he could tell it wasn't long.
"He doesn't like my family, he won't tell them. He'll like you too, and if he doesn't, which, might I add, he won't, the evil Black in me will slice his head off. We have a thing for hating one another, even if they haven't done anything." Sirius said, as if reading Remus' mind like a book.
"Do you think he'll be there?" Remus whispered, looking down. He felt foolish, as if he was speaking like a child.
"Yes, he- he does the phone calls and shit, so he's always there, and checking if everything's alright. He would've been perfect for the family, but he argued with my dad multiple times about rights, so he's fab."
"Ahh yes, the Gayest Word of the Gay Dictionary for Gays, fab."
"Congratulate me for being flamboyant, it's fun."
The mild banter continued for two more minutes before Sirius stopped.
"And here we are."i hate this chapter so much. it's fucking shitty and i want to flush it down the toilet. i don't know, you remember how i was posting everyday? yeah, sometimes i finished them an hour after uploading the last one, but didn't think it was good idea to post another so soon. and now i'm as dry as a bone. like a match that's lost it's spark. adding to the great news, school starts on the 29th and i'm scared. i literally haven't achieved anything this summer. bleagh. i'll just go die in a corner. holy crap, i completely forgot! thank you, thank you, thank you so much for over 100 votes on did book. i haven't hit a thousand reads yet but i still have over 100 votes, which i find a step up from my last book which had over a thousand reads after i achieved that amount of votes. and i'd already finished it. so this is great!
